Default Tranny blew - grind sound, speedometer went to 180kmh, then just spun in gear

driving yesterday. shifted to third at 3k rps. and boom ! grind sound the speedometer went all the way to 180kmh and then i pulled it outa third. tried to shift again to avoid trafic. went into gear but just spun.
had the car towed to my house. tranny dissection to begin asap.
what could it have been.
the main shaft had some play in it when i did the clutch and flywheel about 2 months ago.
the tranny would not downshift to 2nd or 1st.

new gears and syncros and call it a day or should i just find a new tranny and swap it directly.

you didn't state what tranny you are even running.....

that being said, for as cheap as tranny's are, i'd just get a new one, but it's up to you. Gearspeed makes some great upgraded parts

you can find a fine working ls trans for between $300 and $400 on here. i personally would take it apart and inspect it to see if its salvagable, but if you have no prior experience with b/d/h series transmissions you will be lost.

Check the axles. One may have pooped out of the differential.

The Clip that holds the axle to the drive shaft it either worn out or broken. Its a "c-collar clip" as I call them... dont know the technical term. I had the same issue with my pass side axle after I had it in and out 5-6 times....new axle solved the issue. Luckily I have LSD so i could still get it home

It's a refurb axle from kragen so I'm going to asume it has a problem. It's still under warranty so Ima get a replacement.
