Icon6 Tranny for 98 civic hx Please Help

I have a 98' civic HX automatic coupe and have noticed that the transmission has started to slip. I havent taken it in to th shop yet to determine how bad of shape the transmission is in but Im trying to prepare for the worst and was hoping that one of you guys could help. Here are my questions:

Would you recommend I rebuild the transmission or order one from the many Japanese internet retailers (feel free to name some good ones that you know) that ive seen?
Would i need a special HX vtec-e transmission?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

The only thing you can use is an HX transmission (they're CVT, not a true automatic) These particular transmissions were notorious for going bad. A JDM CVT/multimatic that comes mated to the ODB2 D15B vtec should also work. Conventional civic automatic transmissions wont work. Either find another CVT or swap in a manual.

After some digging I found that the problems that I'm havi
G with my transmission may not actually b slipping but an issue with the starting clutch.
The vehicle may have one or more of these symptoms:
• Idle fluctuates between 500 and 1,500 RPM (The
fluctuation is more pronounced before the engine
reaches normal operating temperature.)
• Shudder or judder when accelerating from a stop or
just before stopping
• Surging at highway speeds between 2,000 and
3,000 RPM
• Excessive shock when the engine is cold and you
start to accelerate
• A “coo” sound, lasting about 5 to 10 seconds, after
coming to a stop
PROBABLE CAUSE
The problem may have one or more of these causes:
• TCM control unit programming is too sensitive.
• The start clutch assembly is worn.
• The start clutch control valve is contaminated.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the start clutch assembly, the start clutch
control valve, and the TCM.
.

Do u have any further info on this issue as these r the exact symptoms of my car.

Thanx

I don't know much about the CVT transmissions other than that they are notorious for having problems. If you're planning on keeping this car for a long time you may want to consider swapping in a more reliable manual transmission. I'm not really sure how easy replacing the starting clutch is or where the parts are available.
