Default Too many coilover choices help

I want to buy a full coilover setup for my b18 turbo hatch. I just got back from SEMA and there are too many choices to chose from. I looked at the tein's and the apexi n-1's but they are expensive. I also looked at some h&R's and some tiawan imported ones. I want some that will have a decent ride quality but also perform on the street/track. The H&R's are considerably cheaper than the others. Are they ok or should I look into something else.

A popular coilover shock combo is the the Ground Control coilover kit with Koni Yellow shocks. Koni Yellows are used by a lot of the road racers on this forum I believe.

That's probably the best bang for the buck setup.

Exactly, I love my GC coil-overs.

I got Tein's. They were a good bang for the buck. Less than a grand altogether. I can't complain, they really do kick a lot of the ***.

To run Koni Yellows on Ground Controls, you need Koni Yellow Edition GC's ...they cost more. Koni Yellows are expensive too. By time you add these two together you coulda had some TEIN HA's. If you are a serious racer, then you'd have to revalve your Koni Yellows to handle stiffer spring rates, so 500 for shocks, 500 for revalve, 289 for Groudn Controls .... thats the cost of a J.I.C. or ZEAL coilover set.....which would you rather have, half *** sleeves, or race proven suspension, for the same damn price.....

Ground Controls are not bad, but they are not the best bang for the buck....Im a GC hater.....so F*ck sleeves......they'll never sit on my car, but ust me

i agree, i wish i had not gone with GC's.... I talked with the JIC guys extensively at SEMA and it seems like they have a GREAT setup for about the same price as tein after u buy the tein pillow upper mounts which the JIC's come with..... just my $.02

I like my Buddy Club Racing Spec dampeners. They're the low-end of the Buddy Club coilover line, but they work great. ~$1700 gets you a 46mm piston, 16-way adjustability, 3-way adjustable dampeners (dampening, body length, and spring preload). Works really good. Load up the chassis in a tight sweeper with some imperfections in the tarmac and the BCRS's just soak them up. No unsettling of the chassis or anything. They come with pillow mounts too. Much better than the Teins I had.

to tell you the truth... a coilover and shock combination is only a few hundred less than a full tein setup. think about it... and i doubt you'll ever outgrow the teins... good luck in choosing your suspension setup.

It depends. If you get the cheap Tein SS like alot of people are doing you can out grow them quick. Their spring rates are very low off the shelf. The fronts can handle 9 kgf/mm (502 lbs/in) max which isn't bad at all but the rear max is 5 kgf/mm (279 lbs/in) which sucks if you're into autoX or anything else.
