Re: Tire size help.. (sidoe)
that's too big.
i personally wouldn't get 17's, not even 16's. i'd go with some nice 15inchers.
but if you want to get 17's that bad, try 205/17/40. if your car is lowered it will be a problem. and if you get anything bigger, you'll rub everywhere...
15's

You sound like my uncle he is extremely partial to 15's on his si..
I really want to get 17's and I will be getting the Eibach pro-kits also. And i know that 205/40/17's are the most common size upgrade when you are getting 17's its just that I wanted something a little wider..

Re: Tire size help.. (sidoe)
well, go for what makes you happy. but 15's in my opnion look better than 17's on covics. 16 is the biggest i'd go with. you'll see what i'm talkin' about when you get those 17's. also make sure you get the right offset.
just ask the guys here if they'd rather go with 17's or 15's. i bet most of them would say 15.
oh, and tires would be cheaper too

15's are best man, they have the best selection of tires available. Try getting RE730, Falken Azenis, or S-03's on and fitting correctly on a 16" or 17" wheel for a Civic!! Ain't gonna happen!! Also, with a 215/45R17 tire it will rub like hell dude. Don't do it.

Re: Tire size help.. (97CivicFerio)
I'm not gonna definitely do it i was just wondering if anyone had it on there civic..
I like the look that 17's give a car however I do not want to have a horrible riding car..

Sounds like you are getting the idea. 17's on a Civic will ride quite harsh. Hell, when I put a 195/60R14 tire with a stiff sidewall on it rides stiffer than comfortable!

Re: Tire size help.. (sidoe)
I looked up what the stock tire size is for your car a 195/55/15.You can put 17's on your car or even 18's.But if you put 17's you have to get the 205/40/17's.That will give you almost the same tire diameter as the stock tires.
The variance is .02 inches difference as long as your 17" wheel is as wide as your stock wheel. Now depending on if your going for looks or racing and your budget will decide what you want to get.
I would recommend,
15's for racing and easy on the budget.
16's for racing and show more costly
17's for show and real costly
Hope this helps-Later

Re: Tire size help.. (deepnite)
17 inch is too big in my opinion ...
16s are ok .. 15 are best .......
in reality .. having a thin sidewall doesn't really help anything ...
you wont turn into every corner fast enough to have the sidewall flex so much that you wish you have thinner side wall .... at least i hope you dont ...
17 rims and tires ..
advantage:
none known
"looks good" maybe ?
disadvantages:
harsh ride ( and also pro-kits are significant drops )
expensive (rims and tires)
rubbing wheel well
heavy

Re: Tire size help.. (bishop)
if your going to get 17's you are going to have to get a 205/40 or 50/17 and when you get your rims your going to need a 42mm offset. I am getting some 17" Konig Tantrums this summer with 205 40 ZR17 Yokohama Paradas

Re: Tire size help.. (sidoe)
You could also go with 225/35/17. I know Perelli makes that size.
But what ever you do go some where that will test fit atleast one tire on the front to see if you have any scrubbing!
If you go to http://www.tirerack.com or http://www.discounttiredirect.com and put your cars year, make ,and model. Then look at recommanded optional sizes for your car you'll find that the 205/40/17 is what both recommend as an optional size.

Re: Tire size help.. (fifthgearonline)
If your going to go with Yokahoma I'd go with the Yokahoma A520.I work for a tire company and i've seen alot of paradas chalked up and they don't last for .The A520 is a better tire all the way around,it offers awsome traction and handling rain or shine and will last alot longer than the Parada's.

i didnt think much of the kumho 712 s..but then i got a wheel/tire package that came with them..they re great in the rain..its rain d alot in the bay area and the tires really grip the road..i havent felt any tire/water resistance since...as for dry traction..it must be the tread design..they have a tendency to want to follow the grooves on the road..

Re: Tire size help.. (deepnite)
1st of all im not going for 100% performance on my tires.....but i have also been talking with people that have run both kumhos and paradas....and 3/4ths of the people that i have been talking to said that the paradas are stickier then the kumhos. Another reason for me to get them 92 dollars a tire...and thats not over the internet

Re: Tire size help.. (txcivicsi)
I put a set of 17's on my 2000 EX , the tire combination even looked decent(in my opinion **GO FIGURE**) . My civic isn't lowered yet KEY WORD yet . I have heard people saying I will have probs when I do , But I have also seen civics lowered with 17's . As far as ride goes . I definitly noticed ride quality take a nose dive , but the car seems somewhat more stable in cornering . With Kuhmos I hate them , I am runnning 205/40/17 and two of the tires are out of round already and its 6 months later . I am thinking about jumping to 215/45/17 Potenzas or some Bridgestones . I know their Tire life is short but have heard good stories about handling and ride quality . Just an added opinion
