Default Tire Gel or spray hurt rims?

I have heard stories... are these true? See, I just bought rims and put them on today actually and I dont want to frick up the finish. But I also like nice black tires. So is there something to worry about? or nah?

I would use the gel and put it on with a sponge if you are worried. But it should not hurt the finish, just wipe up any extra that might have dripped on the rim. You may also want to ask the appearance forum as well.

Tire gel/spray will harm the tires, but it shouldn't bother the rims as long as you wipe it off.

Could you explain to me how it harms the tires??

I don't wanna mees up my tires for something as stupid as making them shiny. I always thought it was good for em, like conditioning them to protect from the sun and stuff like that.....

Most of the tire gels/sprays contain silicon and other chemicals which degrade the rubber. I doubt that the tread would last long enough for this to happen though. Read your owners manual for your tires. The warranty card for my Dunlops say that the warranty would be voided if I used anything other than soap and water.

gotcha

So your saying that because tires wear down naturally, i proabably wont ever see the effects of the tire gel. But if i had the tires areound for a really long tire, the gel would eventually harm it?

Thanks!
