Default timing questions on ls swap

ok first off heres my setup:

b18a with b18b cams, hp racing header, short ram intake, custom 2.25" exhaust

ok i DO NOT have adjustable cam gears yet, but when i first replaced my timing belt before i installed the engine into my car for the first time i accidently retarded the intake cam timing 1 tooth, which made the engine pull very hard off idle, then i retimed it about 2 weeks later and now it doesnt pull AT ALL off idle and seems to rev slowly down lowtill around 4k and starts to speed up really well, i think i may have the exhaust cam a little off too and that might be affecting the engines ability to rev, anyway, is it safe to run the intake cam 1 full tooth retarded? because i seemed to enjoy the way the engine made power a WHOLE lot more then...
