Default Timing mark question....

On an H22 shouldn't the timing marks be level when lined up on the cam gears?
For example i have the top timing cover off my motor and when i turn the cams with the belt on the lines should be even like i i took a ruler across them they would line up wouldn't they? I thought they are supposed to be even. If not then my motor is a tooth or two off timing. Cause even the TDC arrows that say up forged into the cam are not both lining up when i put a roller across them and line them up horrizontally. If this is tough to follow then I am sorry. I just thought that the arrows would also be even cause the timing marks would line up if the arrows do too.

they arrows should be close to each other, but not perfect is common (if you turn the cam gears so the arrows are both pointing horizontally). As long as its off by less than the distance between the teeth on the cam gear, you'll be fine. If its off by more than that, you might want to redo your timing.

If you look closely you can see the marks are not lined up
not the best pic but i was told u should be able to take a roller across them and they would be lined up and it is off. so im taking it as this is the problem with my motor.

my firewall at work is blocking the site you hosted the pic on, so I'll have to wait til I get home to see it, but I've done many H22 timing belts before, so I'll help out if nobody beats me to it while I'm still at work.

ok, i can see the pic now. it is hard to see the marks from the angle you took the pic. you should take the valve cover off and rotate the crank until the two arrows are pointing up, and the marks you are talking about should line up next to each other in the middle.

If the lines are within a couple millimeters of being "perfect" with each other you should be fine. If you take a straight-edge across one and the other is 35 degrees north or south of that line, you have a problem

Did the issue you're having start after you did something like a repair or a misshift or something? Give us some more info, bro!

ya I was gonna say the same thing, u have to take the pic completely perpendicular to the cam gears or it's really hard to tell by way of picture, they're definately close, but I can't tell exactly... sorry
