you can't bar a JDM B16 in your civic. You have to get a USDM B16, either the B16A3 from an Obd1 Del Sol or the Obd2 B16A2 from the 96-97 Del Sol or 99-00 Civic SI. Me and my buddy just talked to the smog ref last week. We are in the inland empire area of so cal by the way, and he says, he will not pass a JDM motor what so ever. They are higher compression motors and he doesn't care if they have all the smog equipment on it. He will not visually pass it.

Best bet for you, is contact your local Ref Station, and ask him what your options are. And go from there. Cause from what I've seen on HT, alot of the ref's are different. Hope this helps.

I know its possible to get done. But in my area, the Ref is saying no. But you need all the smog equipment from a OBD1 B16 that was in the 93-95 Del Sol. Along with the OBD1 Us spec P30 Ecu (rare and pricey), and the Usdm IM with TB. The JDM TB doesn't come with a MAP sensor. And the correct wire harness. And the OEM Cat for the B16 Del Sol. I might be missing something, but thats what I remember. Me and a buddy did this swap in his 94 civic. I called the Ref first and he told me what we needed to do with the JDM B16. But it took him a little over a year to get everything and actually bring it to the Ref, just for him to deny us. So thats why I'm saying talk to the REF, verify with him what you are doing and what you need, and then do it again right before you make your app. It seems like these guys make up there own rules or something sometimes. Cause I know plenty of other people that have gotten there JDM B16s bar'd. From what your saying, it sounds like they got there heads on straight up there. So good luck and i hope i gave you some help.

Just some heads up, make sure you get a brand new Oem CAT and O2 sensor. And if your going aftermarket on headers or intake, make sure you have CARB numbers visible.

USDM P30 will read 37820-P30-AXX
JDM P30 will read 37820-P30-0XX or JXX or 9XX

I am going through this dilemma as well. I might register my car in Nevada to avoid all this headache.

I'm looking at the same swap or a b20 swap..best bet is to check regulations in the state before you even decide on the swap. I went through the same issue in florida looking to see what they will take and what they wont.
