test pipe is just a pipe that will take place of the cat, which makes it illegal due to the cat is an emission part. where i live they don't do emission on odb I and obd 0 here, so i'm good.

Re: help!! (stock99si)
it will add power and will sound louder cause the exhuast flows much better. you will know your mpg get will get lower and also you might get a check engine light cause the o2 sensor. i don't know the process on getting better mpg and so on, but i think you have to tune it or something. if someone can chime in on that.

Re: help!! (stock99si)
the test pipe will NOT be the reason why you get less mpg!!!... its because of the O2 if you have one in the cat. it will throw off your a/f ...(air/fuel ratio).. to fix that you get a spark plug defouler which moves the o2 out of the exhuast stream. If done right you will get better gas mileage and there will be no cel on... cel is check engine light for the poeple that dont know. if you need more help p.m. me.

I read somewhere that if you are going to do something in terms of upgrading your cat, that you should go with a high flo cat. Test pipes are illegal on cars driven on the street, you can only use them at a race track (drag, road course, etc.) In the test I read about difference between stock, high flo, and test pipe, the high flo won. High flo gave a 3-4 hp bump over stock, and the test pipe only gave a 1hp over the high flo. You can get a big ticket if pulled over and found with a test pipe on. Is 1 more horse worth a ticket? Go with the high flo. Most high flo's have o2 sensor holes, especially if you get one designed for your vehicle.

Re: help!! (daluv)
what state do you live in? In wisconsin cops dont give a **** and ever one of my friends and i run test pipes and have been pulled over many times never once asked or checked. I also read that review/test about the one hp over high flow.. it is true but when it comes to money testpipe.. about $10..highflow about $200-250 so its more of a money thing then a performance. Also you can just drill/beat out your stock cat does about the same thing as a test pipe... also you must be in a state that doesnt do smog testing or they will get you for that...5hp on a car that only has 160 to start is a pretty good jump. about a 3% gain... and it will let the engine rev a little quicker. thats a good gain for $10-15. And i dont really feel bad becuase one i run e85 in my evo and two cars are a very small % of where the **** come from... factory's are the big one

is your car still stock because i would do a header back exhuast leave the cat and call it a day... oh and a intake.. short ram is the best for everyday.. you dont have to worry about hydro-locking you engine.

I had a test pipe on my car for a while, but ended up putting the stock cat back on, mainly because a straight-through (non-resonated) pipe will add a weird resonance to your exhaust note. I personally didn't like it, so I took it off. It will probably go back on when I swap my motor, but for now I really don't see the difference, other than the raw fuel smell and the extra smoke.
Cops don't generally look for de-catted vehicles around here, and if you have a valid inspection sticker all they can write you up for is modified exhaust. Don't drive like an idiot and you can avoid the whole situation.
Running no cat is really only beneficial to motors making lots of power (boosted, hi comp, bigger displacement, etc). Supras can gain as much as 20-30 whp by forgoing a cat. So really if you have a Civic with bolt-on's you aren't gonna see a big improvement over a cat that is in good condition. Boosted? You probably will, especially if you are running rich or running leaded race fuel (obviously).

Re: help!! (EJProject)
the reason why turbo'd vechiles get bigger performance is because it lets the turbo spin more freely and has alot less back persure then. spoon up is a little quick also.

Test pipe is illegal....but I never seen a cop get on his knees and look under the car before =D. The test pipe replaces your catalytic Converter. Correct me if I am wrong, but the CC reduces the smoke comming out from the exhuast, and by replacing that with a Test pipe which is just a Hollow pipe will add less back preassure to your car increasing the cars power but will blow more smoke. The only harm you are putting upon is the enviorment

it doesnt matter if the test pipe has a secondary o2 bung, the secondary o2 will read too much fuel and run your motor lean and give a cel for a failing cat, convert to obd1 and youll be fine

Nailed it on the head....
But for you OBD II guys not wanting to roll with the cell light on, jack up you car wrap alimminum foil over the o2 sensor and then zip tie it out of the way to the stabilizing arm of the shift linkage and your all set. Your MPG will go down, and you will end up with a boucing idle but you wont have a cell.
