Temp Guage doesnt move please help
My temp guage in my eg doesnt move after driving for like 30 miles. At first i thought it was just the thermostat so i just changed it yesterday and the heat works great within a couple of mins but the temp guage stays on cold the whole time. It worked when it was warmer out and it actually worked yesterday before i changed the thermostat but now it doesnt move at all after a long drive?!?!!
Can anyone please help?
thanks
-Brian

It probably just broke. I wish I could be more helpful, but our gauge clusters have a history of being gay and fragile. I'd see if you can't swap a friend's cluster in there for a moment and see if that does it.

i havent check that yet but i did unplug it when i changed the thermostat but i also remember hearing it click into place when i pluged it back in

make sure all the connections are clean, plugs get dirty some times.
have you done anything behind your cluster? or to your cluster? might be a bad connection or messed up gauge.

check continuity from the sender to the ECU... don't try a million things, diagnose it.

Re: Temp Guage doesnt move please help (vtec69)
You temp gauge doesn't read off your thermostat (that switch on the thermo housing is for the fan), there is a temp sending unit for the temp gauge on your cluster. Its a one pin sensor located on the head under the dizzy to the right for the coolant outlet to the radiator (for b-series at least, im looking at my bare b16 head now). I had the same problem on my DA, and that was the culprit.
You can also test to see if it is your gauge cluster thats not work too. You can ground the 1 pin connector going to the sending unit (once you find it), and your temp gauge should shot to H if its working (but don't ground for longer than 2-3 seconds though cause you could fry the temp gauge, just make sure it moves). If not then there another problem to consider. Also look for short/break in the wire going to the temp sending unit.
Oh yeah the signal for the temp gauge doesn't ever goes though or to the ecu, so i wouldn't brother with that.
Hope this helps, good luck!!

Yup you were 100% correct
The sensor got unplugged and the whole time I thought the sensor on the thermo housing controled the guage but its the sensor on the head
Thank you very much for your help

No, the temp sender is only connected to the gauge. The ECU is getting its signal from the sensor on the thermostat housing.

also on a side note on this topic
my thermo was stuck open and would take my car a very long time to warm up
this was causeing vtec not to work until like 15mins of driving around
but now that ive changed the thermostat it kicks on right away
