Tein SS question, eg hatch
OK,
sortof technical question about the tein SS for eg hatch.
i'm thinking about getting these(thinking very seriously actually).
What are the springrates for the EG hatch? in lb's ?
currently i've got 450f and 350r sleeves on agx's, the stiff springs handl VERY VERY well in the turns, but at the height I want to run ride quality is EFFED.
ALSO, how much shorter is the shock body than a stock length shock?
i'd like to know the piston rod too, but the shock body is most important to me.
I have heard that people get integra SS's for eg's because they have stiffer springs, and can go lower. Is the shock body even shorter on these? and do they bolt right up?
I know these arent the easiest questions,
but if anyone can answer some of them, i'd really appreciate it,
thanks.

Re: Tein SS question, eg hatch (Tad)
have you looked into the upper mounts from GC. $75 a pair.... it makes it so that the shock doesn't bottom out. Benen Ind. also mods your stock ones if you want...

Re: Tein SS question, eg hatch (B.CRUZ)
yeah i looked into that
150bux is quite a bit, and they only give you .75" more suspension travel
also I they wont clear my front strut bar.
havent heard of the benen thing. but for my current setup to work correctly,
I'd need to change the rates to 350f 250r, and get more suspension travel.
so that means new springs also... basically I wouldnt really save much over the SS's, and it'd be more of a hassle.
But I want to know everything about the SS's before I go shelling out that kind of cash.
thanks.

I'm lost as to why you want to go from 450f/350r to 350f/250r "to gain more travel." If anything, stiffer rates will keep you from needing so much travel.
SS shock bodies aren't shorter than stock, neither is the piston rod.

I didnt say I wanted to go to a lower rate to gain more travel.
I wanted to go to a lower rate AND gain more travel.
and are you serious?
the SS have stock dimesions!?? wtf is all the hubbub about them then!?
and whats with this quote discribing them on every damn site that sells em.
"TEIN has developed advanced technology to design the shell case and stroke to bring out the full potential of your vehicle"

IMO, get some Koni Yellows, GC upper mounts, and swap your springs to 350f/450r...
Oh, you'll need to purchase diff sleeves or adaptors for the GCs to fit on Konis.

Re: (phantom_sol)
So the tein SS's do NOT have a shortened shock body or piston rod????
anyone know?
and yeah, if I got gcs/konis/uppermounts it would be around a grand.

not if the teins have a shortened shock body
I emailed tein, so hopefully they'll have an actual answer for me soon.

IMO, the Tein SS's are horrible, the spring rate are way too soft something like 100+ something in the front and high 200's in the back, my friend has them on his car and they are not good at all !
i would highly suggest getting HA's for the amount of money that you are gonna spend on SS's, it's not that big of price differnce, 100 bucks at most !

C'mon, rates for EG are 7k front 3k rear or 392 lbs front and 168 lbs rear. I had these and just bought 7k springs for the back. I liked the ride, not as sweet as the HA's I used to have, but pretty nice non-the-less.

ok, the springrates arent all that great.
or at least the rear isnt.
the front is just fine for me.
I might checkout the sustec pros. are those damping adjustable?

No, they have been DC'ed and replaced with SS's in the US. Japan can still get HA's though.

Re: (Bryant)
ss's replaced the HA and the Flex replaced the RA..
the flex's have adjustable shock body length to fit your needs , i can get out of my car on driveways and shake it up and down like a teeder todder its so stiff.....
and you can just get custom spring rates for your ss's , there 200 dollars...
or you can just spend the 200 extra dollars and get flex's instead of SS's

There is an adjustable and non-adjustable version.
I'd go with TEIN Flex's over Tanabes though, because the shock body is adjustable rather than just shortened.

OK! I just got an email back from Tein.
it went as follows:
"In regards to your question. The Super Street kit for the 92-95 Civic is 0.6
inch drop shorter in front and a 0.8 inches shorter in the rear from OEM
shock body. And the Pistons should be relevant to those numbers for the
shorten shock body. Also, the spring rate for the front is 391lbs and the
rear is 168lbs. Please contact anyone of our sales at the office for further
assistance. Thank you for your interest in TEIN High Performance
Suspension Products."
