swap running rich
Okay so I recently swapped in a b8 bottom with a z6 head in my 95 cx hatch. But the problem is the car is running rich. I checked the spark plugs, black. The exhaust smells like serious gasoline. The car will start and have a high idle (higher than usual) When I drive the car the acceleration is not very responsive. But when i turn off the car it won't start again unless I wait a few hours or even a day. I'm thinking it could be my fuel pump but I'm unsure. I went to Auto zone tonight and picked up a fuel pressure test kit so I can test of course. If it sounds like a faulty fuel pump can anyone confirm, or what else could it be?

Well I guess the only thing I can do is see what the psi reading is. What should it be for a b8 block and z6 head? Would I look up the specs for the z6 or b8?

It's mounted on the driver's side of the fuel rail. It has a vacuum line on the top leading to the IM and a fuel line coming from the bottom. Use "hard emissions hose" found in the pcv or help section at parts stores for both the FPR and MAP sensor.

Okay, I know where it is now, thanks. Whats the point of using hard vacuum hose for the FPR and MAP sensor?

Most softer hoses tend to collapse a little when idle vacuum is applied. This can absorb some of the vacuum pressure and wear out the hose. Over time the collapsing shrinks the tube and it can eventually suck itself shut.

I'll test my fuel pump, fuel pressure and then replace those hoses and see if my car stops runnning rich. I talked to a rep at auto zone and he told me that it could possibly be the fuel pump because it will start up but not start up again for awhile like stated above.

I bought a new battery because my other one was toast. I also filled up a 5 gal gas can and put new gas in my car. (I don't know how long the other gas had been sitting) The starts up with a little hesitation but runs. I take it for a 10 min drive going up to around 60mph. Get home, let it idle for a little. Then I turned it off and tried to start it back up and it won't start. I can hear the fuel pump priming. Now I have to wait so the car will start again which usually takes a few hours or up to a day. I don't know what would cause my engine to do this after it was running.

This is true. It has happened to me before the injector got stuck open and flooded. u can unbolt the fuel rail and put a rag on the vavle cover and prime the injectors to test if they shooting right and closing.

No its not smoking. I am in the process of testing the fuel pressure. I disabled the fuel pump, started the car and let all the gas run out of the lines. Then I hooked up the dial and the fuel pump again and it wont start.

Prime the fuel filter and then the system a dozen times. Is the pressure gauge showing any increase when the pump primes? I'm not even getting into how you started the car with the fuel pump disabled.

u gotta let the fuel pump prime a few times at least since you emptied the lines. can't getta fuel pressure reading when there's no fuel in there. like the others said, you could have bad injectors. that's kinda what it sounds like according to your earlier post, they're flooding the cylinders

You can check for flooding by removing the spark plug and sticking an extra long q-tip down into the hole. If it comes back soaked with gas, the cylinder is flooded. Even a screwdriver can work.

Well i primed it a few times before to see the psi reading and i got 40. But even before I disconnected the fuel pump it would do this. 94civiccupew/b7 i think your right because i have to let my car sit for a few hours. The exhaust smells like gas and is running rich.
