Default Swap for Del Sol

Hey guys, I've been on these forums a lot but haven't posted before. So I hope this isn't a complete noob question but eh here goes.

I picked up a 93 Del Sol S. Non-vtec motor with 176k on it, tranny shifts fine however there is some noise when the clutch is not depressed. But as of late the motor has been idle'n kinda funky. Spikes between 1.5k to 2k and sometimes even below 1k. And smokes in higher RPM. So I will be picking up a new motor just to have sitting around incase this one takes a dive.

Heres my dilemma. I want a vtec motor this time around. My old car had a poor mans type R in it and it pulled hard, but didn't seem to get nearly as good gas mileage. So with gas milage in mind and difficulty of swap being an issue (since I'm noob). What motor would be best and need the least amount of parts changed? The vtec out of the Si? and if I buy one off hmotorsonline, does it come with all the parts I need for a complete swap?

Thanks in advance.

Normal idle at operating temp will be lower than 1k. If it goes up and down from 1k to 2k constant, check coolant level. If coolant level is fine, check TPS. Smoke at high RPM is prolly your rings. 176k will most likely smoke due to worn out rings.

Now with the motor decision..
hmotors has a full description of the motor you buy and what it comes with. Just have to read it. (I got my motor from them and I recommend them 100%)
Now with the MPG. D series is great on fuel. B series is good too but you'll get more out of the D series. It also depends what your plans are with this car. Beater? Project? or just a fun car to play with. If you wanna play around, I would go b16. Cant go wrong with a b16

Thx all make sure to check all that in the morning. And I really would like to turbo it down the road, just because I really love the sound of a nice bov but it would never be anything to big.

EDIT- also, is it relatively hard to swap in a b16?

If you're gonna boost it, go for b16. And if you're mechanically inclined, it shouldn't be that hard for you.

Kev

And as Ron said...

Blue smoke= oil
White smoke= head gasket
Black smoke= runs rich

smoke is blue.

ok, I'm going to start checking around on hmotors and some other sites to see what the price should be. And a buddy of mine builds cars quite frequently so hopefully I can get him to lend a hand.
