suspension woes (00 civic ex coupe)
first time posting, been lurking for a while. have a 2000 civic ex 2dr that has an interesting suspension problem. symptom: makes a thud when braking only, driver's side front. Does not occur every time I'm on the brakes. can hear a jiggling sound when going over bumps, but not all bumps. thudding sound is wheel-speed dependent, i.e. at higher speeds, the noise is more frequent and all but disappears right before coming to a complete stop. This is NOT a brake rotor/pad problem (not a pulsating in the pedal, plus rotors and pads are nearly new and their specs are fine). if I am experiencing the thudding sound, I sometimes back off the brake pedal, go over a bump, hear a jiggling or rattling sound, then get back on the brake and no more noise. the thud has become more frequent with time.
I removed the DS front wheel yesterday, and nothing appreared abnormal (normal play in the halfshaft, ball joint and tie rod ends tight, suspension spring not cracked or broken). I am starting to wonder if the lower front control arm bushing is toast, but wanted to get some experienced folks' advice. I have access to a press and could do this solo.
Any help GREATLY appreciated. Car is mostly stock at 115K. Thanks.
