Suspension Play

Suspension Play
Hi there, I have a problem with my EK when I accelerate from a dead stop there is a play on the suspension. The mountings are not broken. I have changed the steering rack, checked ball joints, tierod ends. I put the front wheels on jack stands then put the car in gear and played with the clutch to recreate the problem it looks like the play is on the shaft going into the tranny. Can this be the case? If for example I am at a stop and without even using the accelerator paddle I release the clutch there is a play if this makes sense.

I'm having the exact same problem right now too. I have all poly lca bushings, good ball joints, new upper A arms, new tie rod ends and even a new driver side axel.
You may have worn out your CV joints on your axels tho.

Re: Suspension Play
You need to get an alignment done anytime you work on inner or outer tie rod. When i bought my civic, the steering and front end feel loose. After alignment, everything tighten up and back in spec. No more loose feeling. Working on suspension, i would suggest the same. Get it check, im sure it is out of spec.

Re: Suspension Play
For me, it's super straight. I do my own alignments. 5000 miles later, no visible tire wear.
From a dead stop, having suspension play, should have nothing to do with needing an alignment other than premature failure of bushings and things. But if you are inspecting things, and they check out, then you are beyond that anyway

Re: Suspension Play
I would think that having the car in the air on jack stands has nothing to do with alignment and bushings because there is no strain now on any of those components. I had someone release the clutch with a quick motion to recreate the issue and I was underneath it looked to me as if the tranny shaft was causing this. I am no professional I am here for advice but I also know enough to connect the dots.

Re: Suspension Play
Did you solve your problem? I have changed driver shaft axle with new inner and outer cvs and still have play when accelerating. The play is very annoying especially in traffic. I would really like to solve this I have double checked mountings, tie rod ends and ball joints.

So my new recommendation is to not change the inner tie rod ends ever. If they need changed, change the whole rack. If you now find that it is indeed your rack, you will be bummed to find out further that a new reman rack comes with new inner tie rod ends. (there is probably a reason...)

Re: Suspension Play
Do you have an aftermarket wheel? If so, does it have a quality mount?
Check every component. Break it down into sections. Start at the wheel. Verify there is no play between wheel and column shaft. Verify there is no play between column shaft and pinion of the rack.
Let us know!

Re: Suspension Play
I have the oem Vtec wheels, there isnt any play on the wheels when its jacked up I have checked that. There used to be a play before I changed the rack and shaft.

Re: Suspension Play
I think I might of found the problem...the front right mount is a bit worn not much though I will see if I can get it swopped this weekend, I am just thinking would this mount cause that significant amount of play so I am hoping its this because its driving me nuts.
