stuttering b18b.....
I posted this in the hybrid forum too, but honestly, not sure how busy it is...
I'm stumped on this one...
I've got a b18b in my 95 si hatch.
It will stutter when I floor it through the gears. It will stutter off the line in 1st (not going anywhere) and then BAM it'll pull like a ****. If I'm cruising at about 40-45 in 5th and floor it, it just stutters til I let part way off the gas.
I've tried 2 differnt throttle position sensors. I've replace the cap, rotor, wires. The mechanical timing (cam gears and crank) are perfectly aligned. The ignition timing is perfect, and I've tried it advanced and retarded. No codes are being thrown.
If I let it idle, it will stutter ever minute or two. If I hold the throttle with the car sitting still, and keep a constant rpm, it will fluctuate about 25 rpms up and down. That doesn't seem unresonable, but still might be a sign of what's going on.
I'm just stumped on this. It will stutter to the point of not wanting to move at times, and this is my daily driver. The motor has been in the car about a month, and ran great for about 2 weeks... Now I'm just frustrated...

I am having the exact same type of problem in my 93 hatch with a b18b. It does not do it to me in 1st, but occasionally in 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th, it does a similar thing. If I am flooring it in these gears, it will randomly cut out like the motor is going to shut off. It doesnt, and if I let off and get right back on it, it goes fine for maybe 500-1000 rpms and then does it again. Sometimes it is worse than others. I have an a/f gauge in my car and when it does this it goes completely lean, so I assumed maybe fuel pump was bad. Replaced it. Filter clogged? Replaced. I have no clue what it is either. No codes. No other problems. Somebody help us!

Re: (Unjockable)
did you check your plugs? my motor started stuttering after i swapped it in. turns out i fouled the spark plugs from running too rich and soon after that my catalytic converter went bad as well. i replaced those things and my stuttering problem went away.

Re: (Bakeoff)
oh sorry. when i read your post up above i didn't see plugs anywhere in there. another thing you could swap out is maybe the throttle positioning sensor. when i was having my stuttering problems some people told me to swap that out. i never got around to doing it, but i suppose you could give it a try.

Re: stuttering b18b..... (Bakeoff)
Do you have a spare ECU to try. It could be bad. My friend had an IAC problem in his 00 Prelude. Ecu traces were burned up.
Also, try checking the distributor ground, or replacing the coil them maybe the ignitor. the groung problem will cause a stutter and lose of power.

Glad you solved the ecu option. For now, I will assume my ecu is fine. I switched my fuel pump, so that is good. I have no more cat, so that is fine. Changed both the intake and exhaust as to eliminate some weird restriction issue or something. I dont think the MAP sensor would effect it in this way. It would cause many more problems on a more consistant basis. I am at a loss, and I have to fix this before I get my turbo in. Going lean like that with boost will be deadly.

Guys, I have the same problem but when mine does that, the check engine light blinks six times. Me and my crew figured out that its the ecu problem. My ecu is going on "limp mode" because of my wiring issues on the first (A) plug going to the ecu. I have both a JDM and USDM ecu for my car and it still does the same thing. GUYS, CHECK YOUR WIRING!! I need to find someone in the Dallas area who knows how to correctly wire up a car.

There shouldnt be any wiring issue because the harness was not altered. It is basically a plug and play. Maybe a wire is grounding out or something, but I dont think so. That problem sounds specific to you, and our problem is different. I have ran my car in "limp" mode before and this is completely different. It is not a lack of power, it is no power. The car wants to stop.

Re: (Adonis)
i figured out what MY problem was
first my fuel pump took a **** on me while i was going down the road today
and for some reason when my fuel pump crapped out on my my ignition coil did also
i installed a new fuel pump and ignition coil and my car is back to being a turd once again, I am happy now that my car is back to its old crappy self again

have you checked your throttle plate. mine has been sticking a lot. i still have to try and get some brake cleaner. i have the same exact symptoms for my 97 civ with 99 b18b.

02 sensor is good. Have not checked my throttle plate but I will go take a look at it. Doubtful that is the problem, but worth a shot. MAP sensor is a possibility, but I thought they were more than $15...never had to buy one. Anyway, congrats on getting your car back to regular slow status

Re: (hatchattak)
check your injectors... run couple bottles of injector cleaner with every fill up!

try this but do not use brake cleaner, because brake cleaner will remove the special coating on the throttle body and it will cause throttle plate from operate properly!!! use throttle body cleaner.

Re: (2lua)
^^thanks for the correction. also anybody rule out the possibility that the stock b18b pressure plate is shot?!? my brother recalled having a problem like this with his eg where it would hesitate, the rpm would go up but he would be going nowhere until traction with the plate connects. just wondering...
