Strange noises at start-up - D16Z6
Hi guys, my 93 del Sol is making some weird noises when it first starts up. The first thing thats noticeable is a valve ticking noise that goes away after afew seconds and it's only when the engine first starts up. I'm guessing it's just a slow oil pump but i thought i would make sure.
The second strange noise is a "whurring" noise that goes away after about 2 minutes from a cold start. I'm guessing it's a pulley bearing.
the third strange noise is a bubbling noise like air is being pushed through the heater core. This noise also goes away very quickly after a cold start. Maybe half a minute after.
So do these engines just make alot of noise when they're cold ? because otherwise, my engine runs GREAT when it's warm. Idles perfectly, has great power, and sounds really smooth.

pully bearing....get new belts ie. ps. ac. alt.
the bubbling is normal. turn your heater core off to cold air as your turn the car on. have it shut for a few minutes.
valve ticking is a normal honda thing. if its real loud you could use a good valve adjustment. VJ always helps if theres lots of miles on it.

Thanks for the replies everybody.
So since the valve(s) only tick when the engine first starts up and then the tick goes away completely, do you guys still think it would be worthwhile to adjust the valves? Maybe for better fuel economy?

Our 204K mile DX does this(valve noise), it's worse when it's colder and also worse when the oil is loosing is vicousity and is nearing a change. When warm it's quiet, if not you need an ADJ. Just it's way of telling you it has some miles on it if it's quiet when warm.
