Stock B18c1 is running 4x richer than normal. HELP!!
Whats up. Im trying to pass smog and my HCs and COs are like 4 times the leagal limit. My motor is completely stock. I just bought a new NTK (NGK) OEM oxygen sensor and a cat. What else could it be? Is there any way I can test my ecu or O2 sensor to see if theyre working/ hooked up right? Please Help. My registration is past due and this is my only car.

double check the valves. if they're good then check for an exhaust leak (bad gasket or cracked manifold). if the o2 sees a lean condition its going to tell the ecu to dump a lot of fuel through the injectors.

did you pass before? are you using the original ecu? is timing correct? you can test the ecu but I can't help you here cause I don't have a manual on me and don't remember off the top of my head the #'s.

The person that I bought my motor off of said that it was completely stock however I do know that she ran a turbo on it for a "short while" aparently. Its from a 98 teg (OBD2) and I'm running a P72 (OBD1) ecu. Maybe its not wired right but I can't take it to acura or honda because neither of them wanna touch my car. This sucks. Isn't there some kind of computer that can be hooked up to my car to say exactly the problem? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS? WHAT ELSE COULD BE WRONG? I DO KNOW THAT I BURN A LITTLE MOR OIL THAN THE AVERAGE-maybe a quart or two evey 2,500 miles.

Excessive oil consumption can show up as high HC content in the exhaust. High HC will kill the catalyst. How long have you been driving on the new cat? Fix the oil consumption and smog it again. As long as the cat is good it should pass.

I've had the cat for about 3 weeks now. I thought B-series were suposed to burn a little. Its not like Im burning a quart a week or anything. Wouldn't I have a blue type of soot/smoke around my exhause. Its all black as far as I can tell. And even if I was burning oil, I thought the only way to fix that is to rebuilt the motor and I dont have the $$$ for that right now.

All engines consume a little oil, say 1/2 quart every 3000 miles would be normal. 1-2 quarts every 2500 is excessive. The soot around your exhaust would be black. There would be some blue smoke coming out of the exhaust under load if the rings are bad. Check the PCV system for clogging or a stuck PCV valve.
