Default Steering rack problems.

i just got a 94 EX coupe and around 80mph the wheel shakes, and even more so when i let off the gas. 78mph its fine, as soon as i hit 80 the wheel vibrates like hell. so i jacked it up and took a look around. i noticed my steering rack boot was ripped and grease all around the area of the torn boot. i got the new boot and went to replace it and i noticed a small drip of power steering fluid comming out from where the rack is. im REALLY hoping i dont need a new steering rack. the car clicks a little when i turn at a slight angle, its not the axles im pretty sure the joint just needs some new grease on it and a boot that isnt torn. here are some pics of what i found.

think its time for a new steering rack, or pack some grease up in that biotch and drive it to NY on monday from NC for summer vacation?

*the power steering fluid was filled up to the top line when i got the car, and hasent moved down a sinch. so im not loosing any fluid, just those few drops i saw when i took the boot off, what do u guys think?

Do you have to constantly add fluid to the reservoir? If so, then you may have a pretty bad leak. Does the car leave puddles behind, or is it a drip here & there? You may as well replace the boot & just keep an eye on the fluid level. If it drops then you know your loosing fluid. That doesn't mean your going to die. It just means your going to loose power steering. If you are loosing lots of fluid on your trip, you can remove the PS belt & that should keep the pump system from braking down due to low fluid levels.

good luck...

it has never left any sort of puddle or even a single drop on the ground. even after a few days of being parked in the same spot (Waiting for plates to drive it), i guess ill just get some grease for it, throw the boot back on and keep and eye on the level. thanks for the info
