are you running a stock motor? what motor? what do you use your car for? these are all things that should be adressed in order to help you make a good decision.

Its a 1996 Honda civic lx 4 door. Stock motor no upgrades other then a cold air intake which will be on soon thinking about doing upgrades down the road such as headers and maybe even a turbo.

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
Also the clutches differ by brand... I have an ACT stage 2, it grips like hell and the engagement is smooth but the thing is just too stiff for daily driving... Going back I probably would have went with a stage 1... Don't get more clutch than you need...

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
if you plan on turboing i would say go with a stage 2. competition clutches makes a clutch kit called the "exedy smoker" which is a mix of good hp/tq hold ratings and daily drivability. look at that

If you do a swap down the road you will need a new clutch anyway... On your current setup you would have no benefit from the stage 2 over the stage 1...

I would just go with the stage 1... Are you planning on turboing your current motor? I mean the y7 is pretty lame to begin with I would recommend a swap before slapping a turbo on that motor, plus I imagine its pretty tired at this point...

If your not planning on doing anything else in the meantime, theres nothing wrong with an oem clutch. If you are planning to do something in the near future then go with a stage 1 clutch. Keep in mind with diferent clutches they act a little differently as was mentioned above especially if its a daily driver you dont want to get something thats goin to be a pain in your *** if its to sensitive

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
I have a Exedy stage 1 organic on my car and I use it for daily driving except in the winter and its pretty good I find. Same stiffness as a stock clutch almost but the friction point is much closer. I would recommend that one for sure.
Its meant for street driving or light hp track use.

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
first there is no stage's what makes it stage one or two? check the hp and tq ratings check the pressure of the springs on the pressure plate
just go oe your intake and exhaust are losing power anyways why spend $300 dollars on nothing

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
I replaced my clutch recently and bought a Exedy stage 1 for cheap on my B16 EG. Now the only problem is that I need to change the CMC and the slave beacuse they went bad after the change.
When you do change it, be prepared to buy a CMC and a slave
Make sure to resurface your flywheel

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
technically there is very little to gain with stock power levels however you will notice a difference if you moved to a lighter flywheel... Actually a lightened flywheel is one of my favorite mods I did to my car...

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
Well I bought the Exedy used, got the clutch, pressure plate and stock flywheel for $20 lol
$250 is about the price for most after market clutches, If you doing the work yourself, make sure the kit brings the clutch alignment tool.

Why doesn't anyone suggest action clutches. Bisimoto has had good luck with them and they are at a decent price. I've never used one so i myself am not to sure.

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
An OEM relplacement with slightly more agressive material would work -- like a full face copper lined disk with an OEM/slightly higher pressure plate
Anything beyond that for a stock car is overkill on your leg
Sweat the details and forget "stages" how much torque holding capacity? You probably have a whopping 100ftlbs so I dont think you need anything too stout

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
Whatever stage of modds your car has
I.e. Stock = stock clutch, bolt ons =stage 1, head/block work or turbo = stage 2 and 3
But thats hard to follow as every manufacturer has different "levels"
So just go with stock

Re: Stage1 or Stage2 clutch?
I had a stage 2 for a year and hated it. Some people like it but it wasn't for me. They shift wonderfully but you really dont' need it.

I drove with the Exedy Stage 1 on a stock d16y8 for years and loved it. IMO, it's a good upgrade for a stock engine... didn't engage too harshly or anything like that. It was very streetable.
If you're really planning on going turbo, it depends on how much power you're considering. I think a stage 1 would be fine for anything up to about 220 HP. Don't get a stage 2 unless you're considering more than that.
