SRS light stays on! WHY????

SRS light stays on! WHY????
After I changed out a rack and pinion in a 92 honda civic dx, the srs light keeps staying on and i have looked in books and other sources on how to reset or how to fix it so the light will go off, even disconnecting the battery but it still won't go off!!! what can i do to solve this problem??? is there a reset button or what??? Help!!!!!!!!!!!

When i bought my car the srs light was on (car was in a wreck, i assumed the airbags went off and the car had no airbags at all.) Well I got in a wreck 2 weekends ago and when I got in the wreck I hit my face on the steering wheel, a moment later the airbags deployed. The timing was all messed up on them and made them totally useless. I had that airbag taste in my mouth for about a week and everything I ate or smelt reminded me of airbags. On top of that the passenger side airbag is designed to block the passenger from hitting the windshield and dash. It probably would have done a great job at that if I would have had a passenger but all it did was shatter my windshield. I don't think I'm going to go the airbag route again due to the problems I had with them.
Sorry about all of the useless info, but thought I'd throw that in there. I had the SRS light on and it was because my airbags were installed improperly or for some reason the timing sensors were messed up.
