Default sputtering problem

When I bought my 94 civic it had huge problems:{ D16Z6 }broken 3rd gear, totally wore down clutch, blown head gasket, replaced two alternators in 3 months, big leak in power steering pump (or the line), ECU was not to my engine.

Bought new clutch kit, got a 95 del sol tranny, got a new head gasket and had the head shave down a bit, somehow the pump no longer leaks fluid (strange) and bought a new ECU from a friend with a PROM programmer who tweaked for me for free. Still the car does not pull at all, sounds and feels to top off in power very quickly like the v-tec does not kick in at all, hit 90mph in 4th gear the other night and almost sounded like my engine was gonna blow or something (don't have a tac - long story). Also when I am regularly driving, I can hear it sputter. Normally only does this while in gear and pressing the gas. kinda like rrrrrr putt putt rrrrrrr.

Could it be bad spark plug, wire, fuel filter, fuel injector, bad sensor, bad piston???
also after installing the new ECU my fuel gauge no longer works, any ideas...??

as far as the sputtering problem goes, check: spark plugs & wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter, timing*, these are all inexpensive and simple things to change/check for.

if not those things, check injectors or fuel pump

if i find a fuel injector to be bad, should i replace with stock or upgrade my fuel rail and all the injectors? Planning on a B16A2 swap really soon....

sputtering has to do with usually poor spark / fuel. check the most common things and give it a decent tune up and then see if you still have problems.
