Sputtering and gauges spazzing at high rpm
Having some odd electrical/ignition issues.
context: 1994 DX hatch with a b20b block, gsr head and trans, p72 ecu, and obd1 conversion harness.
Was having an issue with my car stalling out, and not restarting when it was hot out. After replacing the main relay not working the next best thing seems to be the coil according to previous posts. So today I replaced the coil.
The car used to have the speedometer twitch around a little above 7k, but now the speedometer DANCES all over anywhere above 4k, and will sometimes completely drop to 0. As well, the tachometer will dance around under hard acceleration/high revs as well. The engine seems to be sputtering at high rpm as well. At 7200 or 7300 it will just loose power and backfire over and over really fast as if the ignition timing is off. It won't even reach redline.
This is all new, and all that was changed is the coil. But its seems difficult to believe it would cause all that. We know the rotor went back into the right spot, two wires leading to the coil, all screws are snug. And the engine runs great idle-7000, and the distributor itself was never moved so I doubt ignition timing is off.
Really stumped here, where do I start?

Re: Sputtering and gauges spazzing at high rpm
I was thinking that. And I'm having a really difficult time finding the part? Searching around some people say all ob2 b series distributors internals are the same, some say each is different. It's a gsr head but when I bought a gsr cap it was slightly bigger than the one on there. And parts stores seem to have the ls and gsr listed as having different ignitors.
anyone have a part number, or a way to identify my distributor? It is an obd2 dizzy
