Spoon LSD?
okay so about a year ago now i bought my 1992 civic Sir and i was told that it had a spoon lsd(i haven't had the tranny apart to see for myself but i trust the seller) anyways when cornering once in a while it would randomly make a clunking/clicking sound which he told me was normal, and it wasn't very often... but the other day this started -> on every turn, left or right, it makes the clunking/clicking sound but its way more than usual. like constantly, on even the slightest turn, and its fairly loud, and i can feel the clunking at the steering wheel.. so is this the lsd? is Honda MTF gear oil fine for an lsd like this? or could it be something else? like steering rack maybe?? any input would be appreciated

i would jack it up and look at everything else first before you drop the tranny. check the steering rack for play cv joints easy stuff like that first.

yes i was planning on doing that tomoro morning, but it just seems odd cause as soon as the wheels are straight its perfectly quiet and a smooth ride.. i also forgot to mention that i have my power steering removed and just have the power steering rack with the "looped breather" setup

Seriously?? then what is this? -> http://www.spoon.jp/eng/database/details.php?id=811
and what would be the random clunking before this started? cause it was doing it randomly before. recently i had to get the car to pass inspection, and all the axles were good except for one boot

Re: Spoon LSD?
It sounded like the guy that sold you the tranny welded the diff. I know someone that has done that too. It also sounded like that. The rack and pinion rarely goes out on civics and integera's. Axles or (cvshafts) are not as loud... That other guy is right, there is not "spoon LSD", there is only a type R trans. That does not make that type of noise. It is similar to the B16 trans except for the final drive gear.

Re: Spoon LSD?
welded the diff? why? and if this is the case can the weld break? could this be the reason for the increase in the clunking sound?

Re: Spoon LSD?
it sounds like your differential may be getting ready to blow out the tranny.. I've had this problem before... that site is just an lsd out of a stock type r tranny. The guy that sold it to you may have bought it from there or something.

Re: Spoon LSD?
hmm yikes this is getting kinda scary.. aside from taking the tranny out of the car how much work would be involved in removing the lsd from the tranny?

hold up. so you mean to tell me that a type r lsd has clutch disc in it???? and that it's 1.5 way??? and that you can take it apart and replace those clutch disc?????? there is no Spoon LSD?????
i was for sure 100% that a stock type r lsd was mechanical and not clutch type. but if you guys say there is no such thing, then i guess there isn't
