Re: speaking of tranny fluid... (ejprimo)
I had honda mtf. it's great if you don't mod your car and don't drive aggressivly.
But if you do mod your car, go with redline mtl, that's what I did and I wish I did it earlier

Redline MTL.
Redline seemed to be too slick for my old *** tranny, was grinding more with it than when I had Honda MTF in it.

I recently switched to GM synchromesh and it got rid of my 3rd gear grind on my 205K mile tranny. So far so good.

I have always used Genuine Honda Manual tranny fluid. I also used this on my JDM LSD equipped transmission, are you guys recommending this? Any special tranny fluid that you guys are using with LSD equipped trannies?

Yeah! You better stick with non-slick oil...

...Yep, I guess I don't know what im talking about...
Let's pretend we aren't talking about a 100-HP sh!tbox CiViC with an "old *** tranny." Suppose you were driving an new Evo, Skyline or WRX. Would Honda MTF still be your preferred choice, or is this just a matter of namebrand loyality?
I'm not buying the 'too slick' arguement. It's an urban legend. Sure, oil can be too thick or too thin, but too slick? What does "too slick" mean anyway?

I made the mistake of using Redline in my tranny, and ended up needing 2 new synchro's.
Redline is TOO thick for the honda tranny, and you may end up with problems down the road.
Honda MTL is the best to use in your stock Honda tranny, unless you have changed gears, or are using a KAAZ LSD, and in that case, then use their products as recommended.

...Redline is TOO thick for the honda tranny... Honda MTL is the best...
Dude, Red Line MTL looks like Kool-Aid; scared the crap out of me the first time I used it. I was afraid I bought ATF by mistake. I think anyone that has actually used Red Line MTL can relate to what I'm saying...
The problem I see with most of these anecdotal stories is ppl f*ck the pooch by running their cars around for years with Honda MTF, or worse, motor oil in their trannies. Then, after the damage is done, they go buy Red Line MTL and put it in their "old ***" trannies, thinking it's some sort of 'silver bullet' that going to kill all their problems. When the tranny finally fails, it's not their fault; it's 'cause Red Line is too thick, too thin, too slick, not slick enough, blah, blah, blah...
I guess the moral of THIS story is to use Red Line MTL before your tranny is shot, not afterwards. It isn't one of those 'mechanic in a bottle' snake oils they advertise on TV.
Hey, if you want to believe $3/qt OEM oil is better than $8/qt synthetic racing oil, so be it, but the 'bears' are going to get you in the end...

But hey, that's MY opinion.
Oh, just a little FYI, there was NOTHING wrong with my tranny before putting in the Redline MTL, and koolaid looking? Well, last time I checked, MTL wasn't runny, nor was it soupy looking, in fact it was quite thick.
