sound deadening question
i have a 92 vx and driving this thing on the freeway is quite annoying because the road noise is so loud. At 70mph the road noise is louder than my exhaust! Most of the sound is coming from the rear tires. I know that tires are a factor to when it comes to road noise but the amount of noise i get in my car is ridiculous.
i have heard that the vx models have very little sound deadening material to save wieght.
does anyone what i can do to help with the noise...where can i apply the sound deadening material to make my ride more enjoyable?

Re: sound deadening question (soopafly828)
You can add sound deadening, but what I have been told was that unless you cover EVERY inch of the ground, it's not going to help much...but you are correct...the VXs have very littel sound deadening.

I have an EX and want MORE sounddeadening too...
The raod noise is pretty quieted down by spraying a "rubberized coating" in the wheel wells... I did the front and when you drive in the rain or over sand you can only hear it in the rear...
As far as on the floorboards/trunk etc... you have a couple of options...
There's
Fatmat
dynomat
brown bread
those are all tar/foil type... you press them on (with a roller) and they both prevent rattling and absorb noise... they're mainly designed for stereo applications though (ie BIG stereos to stop rattles)
then there are carpet under-lays... they different thickness soft materials that insulate both heat and sound... imo they're MUCH more effective and MUCH easier to install... for the kind of requirements you have...
I can't remember the name of the company that makes the best one but I have a link to it at home... I'll post it later...
Oh yeah... and someone on here just used homedepot roofing tar paper... said it worked pretty good... probobly just as well as the MUCH more expensive dynamat...
search google for "sound deadening material" and variations there of... you should find LOTS of stuff...

Re: sound deadening question (redline201)
My brother did his ENTIRE car in dynamat extreme... it DEFINATELY made a big difference... there's still a good deal of road noise (mostly coming from the wheel wells)...
When you close the door it sounds solid as hell where as before it would rattle.... it's a VERY dead thud now...
That stuff that's a thickish mat (same as the stock carpet underlay..) is GREAT though... it will kill LOTS of noise...
Oh and the vx has NO stock tar so the dynamat or the like would probobly help a LOT more on a vx than any other model...

Re: sound deadening question (soopafly828)
before you go adding tar....
check your tires
1. are you lowered?
2. are your tires new?
3. have they been rotated regularly?
if you are lowered, it can cause wear on the inside, which hondas already do stock to some extent, then the rear tires "Cup" meaning that they wear a tad bit unevenly on the inside, almost like high and low spots right after each other.
this will cause alot of noise to come from the tires depending on the brand of tire and what size they are.
if you rotate them every 7500 mile you can greatly reduce this depending on the tire.
you can test the tire just by running your hand over the inside section of tire, you will feel the "cupping" like i discribed if this is the cause. sometimes you can even see it.
also a bent wheel will make alot of noise, and sometimes wont be visualy apparent, even an out of balance wheel will do it
im not saying this is your problem, but its a suggestion

Re: sound deadening question (pornstarSR)
tires have less than 15K miles on them...just rotated them 3 months ago.
i know that lowering the car will add to noise...but the noise is ridiclously loud.
i'm getting new tires soon...thinking about something affordable like the EVS 100's or Ecsta 712.
does anyone have experiences with these tires?
