i was on my way to work, in reverse going out of the driveway, i was in motion and my foot came off of the clutch and i heard a snap, but i didnt think of anything cuz i was still moving, well i get out, put it in first and nothing. acts like its in neutral. leave it in gear, let off clutch, it doesnt die, just sits there.if i put it in a higher gear or reverse and rev it you can hear something winding really loud. what did i do ??? i didnt work on my car or anything to mess it up..

anyone know a place i can get a good tranny ?? like maybe a junk yard? but i dont know if i'd trust them. its a d16zor something like that. i dont remember...its a 93 civic ex 5 speed 1.6

the same thing happened to me but i was in first gear. and i had no tranny fluid in my tranny. i would put it in first and wouldnt die, and like u said, if u rev it in gear u just hear grinding.
time for another tranny

i checked and theres no tranny fluid. maybe if i put some in maybe????

might wanna make sure to check your axles also. I had an eclipse once and the axle popped out of the tranny because the shop didn't do it right.

you can try adding it in and see what it does but imo you screwed it big time.

it cant be the axles though can it? becuase why wont the car stall if i leave it in gear?

check the axles first, make sure they are seated properly into the transmission. if they are SORRY, but you are gonna need tranny work.

could be some of the teeth on the clutch broke causing the clutch no to ingage but if u have no tranny fluid then u got another problem then just my .02

i know there is a slight leak in the transmission fluid, its always wet under the tranny but not on the ground(weird), probably only leaks while driving? but anyways, i thought there was no oil, but its hard to tell by just sticking your finger int here, i started to pour some in and after a couple of seconds it just kept pouring back out.

hahahaha better chance of it being the headlight fluid than the timing belt. It wouldnt be running for one.

Also, I would check the axles like everyone else said.

If you look at the alxes and they are fine I would say there is a 95% chance its going to be your tranny.

Place to get them, Honda-tech or a junkyard. If you have a civic with a D16 it shouldn't cost more than $300 for a good used one. You may have to pay someone to put it in though.

I agree with you man. Well..and everybody else i guess haha. Its either the trans or the axles.

And like you said..luckily its a D series trans so it shouldnt be hard to find, AND when you do find one..it'll be pretty cheap. First things first though, definitely check those axles first. It would be awesome if it was just a drive axle popped out and thats it. Hope for the best!

You explain the same problem I had a few weeks ago. and it was my Axles that snap. the CV joint snaped. well jack your car up see if any of your CV Joint (outer) boot is ripped or torn if it is take a closer look and see if it poped out of place if it did then go grab some new axles. Hands down I would rather have it be axles then Tranny.. so Check your Axles. especially the CV Joint (outer)

I'll be an echo here and say check your axles. I had a Del Sol that did the same thing you are describing. One of the axles popped out on the inboard side. Pulled it out, replaced the broken retaining clip, and was good to go.

But have fun with your transmission if your axles are fine.

the reason i dont think it was the clutch is because it has never slipped, the car has only been driven a couple thousand miles maybe less. new clutch was put in in august

ok update- axles
lifted up passenger side(side that didnt have a boot on it til yesterday)
tires will turn- axle doesnt turn with it.
i dont know how adding a boot would do it...they tightened down the big part of the boot real tight, and the other side isnt so tight

Not to be an *******, but it doesn't matter what you *think* it is at this point, go check it out, its the only way your going to find out whats wrong with it. Like everyone said, look at where the axles go into the transmission, there should be like a 2-3 mm gap from the axle to the transmission case. Then check the CV joint, looking for any crazy rips in the rubber.

If you want to go that extra mile, and for just good measure, jack it up and run it in first gear, you may find something that way, just make sure its safe . And again, prolly not gonna be your prob but look and see if your slave cylinder is working, its right next to your engine's VIN

Here is my take on this. Your axle CV joint is fucked. I, personally, don't mess with those at all when they act up. I replace. The way i figure it, you may be able to put it back together, but imagine what would happen if you were driveing 70 down the highway and it let loose

Go to Autozone or whatever and get a new one for $60 with a Lifetime warranty.

Also, if you want to make sure there is the right tranny fluid in your transmission, when you take the axle out all of your fluid is gonna drain out, put it all back together and fill it with Honda OEM Fluid.
