SohFast lightened fact flywheel. . . ?
Who has these? How good are they? Is it safe to lighten the factory wheel? I like the price . . . but would rather spend more if it means I won't get screwed at 8200.

huh?
I would rather lighten a factory FW instead of buying an aluminum one. But only problem is you cant lighten to much from it or it looses its structure. How light are you looking for?

Sohfast.com - has lightened factory flywheels.
I think they are like 10.5lbs.
Limit of structural integrity is the reason I'm asking these questions. I don't want it exploding at 8,200 rpm.

the only way that it will explode if it's out of balance. I don't think that they are that dumb. There are lighter flywheels then that. Plus the lighter you get, the less force is on it.

Right - I know there are lighter flywheels, what I'm trying to figure out is if by lightening the flywheel they are substantially weaker - if I'd just be better off buying a fidanza or act.

well 10.5lbs is pushing it.
conventional wisdom says that with a stock lightened flywheel,
you don't want to go anymroe than like 11-13lbs,
12 being the sweetspot.
i'm going to check out sohfast.com and see their product,
as i'm in the market for one also.

hmm it lists at 10lbs,
seems a bit much to me.
but I'd bet if you bought one you wouldnt have any problems.
still, why not just have a local machine shop lighten yours to the weight of your choice?

Re: (Tad)
Well - I wanted to go about 10 lbs - and honestly I think that's too much to shave off the factory wheel - so I just went Prostreet's forged steel flywheel - pretty decent price - I got the Stage one Exedy clutch and a 10.12lb flywheels for under 400

Re: (TuningOptions)
cool, i'm sure you will enjoy it,
10lbs seems like a great weight for a flywheel,
on the aggressive side, weight wise, but not so light as to hinder daily driving.

Re: (TuningOptions)
still looking,
i'm either going to get a fidanza/zex fw,
or have my stocker lightened to 11-12lbs...
i'd prefer to do the stock route, to save money,
but don't know where to take it around here.
im not a fan of the other aftermarket fw's, they are good ,but too rich for my blood.

Re: (Tad)
yeah I know what you mean - I had to drive 1 1/2 hours to take my block and head to a reputable machine shop - and it took me forever just to even find a decent place - well good luck with the fw

yeah but their clutches suck ***. structural integrity should not be compromised unless the flywheel is unbalanced so i'm going to have to say that if you feel the company is competant then get it.

um not to be a dick,
but no.. thats completely untrue.
fidanza fw's are great, super light, if thats what you want,
and highly reliable, replaceable friction surface(steel) while the rest is aluminum.
from my research aluminum is better than cromoly, cuz in the even that the fw actually DID become overpowered and it lost its rigidity, aluminum will crack, wheras cromoly will just shatter and explode..
