Default SOHC ZC

Hey peeps, I have a 95 civic dx and i was thinking about putting in a build ZC engine and turboing it and upgrading everything to get pretty good horse power. My group says i'm an idiot for working on a ZC SOHC, cause of a single camshaft. I want it cause it is cheaper than a B series and fits into a 92-95 civic easier. Is this engine worth it?

You will find much support for turbocharging the single cam, it can be a good budget option. Search around this site, and check out turbod16.com, you'll find many threads on the topic.

They were telling me that you are better off with two cams instead of one. Couldn't you get about the same response from a single cam? They said when you get into about 250 hp range, you will need that extra cam and the single will restrict you, will the single cam restrict you?

the only real difference between z6 and jdm zc sohc vtec I think is the dizzy (more correctly the coil) it produces better spark. So JDM sohc zc isn't anything terribly special. Also there is a JDM dohc non vtec ZC same thing as early integra motor.

There is probably some truth in that. If you are able to squeeze 250whp from the stock engine, it will likely be pushing the limits of the engine. I am not so sure the lack of a second cam is going to be the restricting factor as much as weaker internals (connecting rods) which means more money and work must be spent on the engine. The DOHC B-series engines definitely have the advantage in the potential department, I don't think anyone would argue that. You just have to decide how much power you want, what are you using that power for, how much money you want to spend, and which method best fills those needs. Just be sure you do your homework first. Good luck with the project, whatever you decide.

Smaller ports and less displacement and bore are what I would think are more limiting than cam.

it's more a swap for EF chassis because I think obd I version either doesn't exist or they are really rare and possibly you will have to source it from overseas, I really don't know. If you can get a obdI one it's pretty straigh forward (goes in wiring is the same, use ECU with that engine or run a chipped one for that engine, and you can use any d series hydro tranny), if it's obd0 then you will have to convert it which I don't really know too much about.

u dont want to put the dohc zc in ur car go with the zc sohc vtec its faster same displacement too. vte does wonders i did a ls swap from my zc sohc vtec and i still miss the vtec helps great deals in the top end and honestly if u have a honda u can use a fully built sohc motor and pull 11 and 12's at the track and it will be different then what everyone else has.. dont go for dohc just to have it.. it will be a hassle to put the dohc zc motor in ur car cuz its OBD 0 THAT IS MORE WIRING NEEDED AND THAT motor isnt the best so it all depends on ur goals dude good luck regardless. though ..

think like this it would be nice to have a car with 500 whp but what can u do with it.. YYYYY .. instead of having 250 with traction.
