SOHC-T or DOHC?
Hey all, at the present moment, i'm at a fork in the road. I had to swap out my **** CX 70hp poo motor due to...it breaking...right. Anyway, so i got a d16, cheapest/first thing i could find, cuz i needed a way to get around. Long story short, its actually somewhat peppy for an sohc, and the oppurtunity has arised/arose for a d16 turbo kit w/ a garret t4/ front mount, the works for $1000 (my friend is hookin me up), or a chance to get a JDM b16, also for 1000 (my other friend is hookin me up...i have nice friends.) Anyways...i've gone over the options, and turbo motors are high maintenence, as n/a motors aren't, but i just don't know what to do. help...for the love of god...help me... thank ya much.

go dohc, youd be starting wit a motor with a better baselind HP, and there are lots of good parts out there for b series. I just got done with my JDM b16. I like it.

I agree to go with the turbo d. They are awesome motors to work with and after being turboed they are very fun. After you spend the 1000 bucks the turbo d with be faster than the straight b16 swap.

Not trying to jack this post but
I am also at this "fork"
But one of the big factors for me is smog. So im leaning towards turbo because I will be able to get more power and it will be easier to modify back to normal for emmisions testing.
Not to mention it will be a little cheaper and easier than having to swap a motor and get it bar certified.

i'd say turbo D because my a d series type of guy, Also go D if u don't really have the cash to spend on the swap. I wanted a swap to begin with, but then i found out the power the D can put out with very little cash. But it's really up to you.

get the b16 depending on what u want to make of this car ex: street/strip, daily driver, gas saver

well, thanks for the help, and i'm sorry i just didn't feel like searching...why search when u can just make up a new topic? and this is addressed to guy who is ahem, tired of these threads...why did u look then?
yea i was leaning toward the d turbo, i do live in va tho, where having a nice car is a crime...,but i have a hook up for inspections, we don't really go thru smog testing

the turbo d will spank that b16,
and has more potential for equal money.
now of course if you turbo the b16, it'd be easier to achieve higher power numbers..
but thats expensive,
everything is alot more expensive with bseries, including turbo stuff.

Because it shows that you're too lazy to take 2 minutes and search on the forums. it's been discussed to death many times - the verdict is: Do whatever the **** you want.

you should go all motor with the b16. good lil motor to start with and you won't worry about breakin **** with a turbo. just my opinion. p.s. turbo's sound cool though.

I wish I was in your predicament.
I've been looking at engine swaps or sticking with my little D16z6 for a while now, and as sad as it is to face, I don't have the money to go the swap route, so I am giving more and more thought to what I can do with what I already have. You might not need to think this way though, 'cause you have some incredible deal either way you look at it.

either way u will work up to a dohc.....KABOOOOOOOOOMIE, unless u build the sohc.
