Default SOHC motor delema...

i am in a delema on what sohc motor to buy at the moment. It is between a d15b with hydro tranny and P26 ecu. Or a complete d16z6 swap. Both will eventually boosted ( might even keep it out of the car and build it to make it easier since my motor right now is still running like a champ d15b7 w/ 154k) If anybody has an vital information of opinions they would like to share that would be awesome

D15B w/ tranny will be more expensive, but will have less miles and probably run better.

The Z6 will be cheaper to come by (theoretically) but most are old and busted and need a complete teardown to run good again.

just finished a d15b swap in my 92 dx and it is suprisingly strong well worth the money paid to hmotorsonline.... also used a P08 ecu and the d15b trans(same as ex/si)

my friend has d15b with cx tranny and chipped p06 ECU. Runs pretty damn good, I'm going to trow a nice clutch on for him and this thing will be a pretty nice car.

Doesn't really matter if you ask me; not a huge difference between the two. Just buy whichever one you come across first.

yeah especially .1 displacement, doyeee. thanks for making us all stupider by repeating that idiotic crap that has been proven wrong time and again. i hope that you were kidding.

replacements for displacement:

turbo
compression
technology
efficiency
etc.

the D15 vtec and D16Z6 have similar hp and torque curves if im not mistaken. .1 nothing. The D15 can theoretically handle more power.

Yeah...plus the D15B has a better rod stroke ratio allowing it to rev higher.

There is essentially no difference between the two. But i'd get a D15B because its likely to have less miles.

I'd go with the z6 because it is that much cheaper but beware of higher mileaged ones.

1. He was obviously joking, since there is only a .1 liter difference between the two. Chill out kiddo.
2. There really is no replacement for displacement.

If you want to talk theory, then a higher displacement engine with any of those items you listed will make more power than a lower displacement engine with the same setup. Period.

z6 - 178,000 original miles - redline and or hit vtec shifts at least 6 times a day! - Regular oil changes and have replaced two timing belts - no issues at all - burns/ uses NO OIL.

my .03

i would say go with the jdm 1.5 vtec you can get everything for around $500 my friend just got one because they are just as good for boost and the cam is a lillte more radical than the z6 so they put down just as much power as the z6 check round and see what u can get one for. u can probably get one cheaper than buying a z6 and rebuilding it i think ardperformance.com has them with ecu for around eight hundred which is pretty good but u can probably get one off ebay cheaper.

yes true the d15b has a more agressive cam, but just think about it. The z6 makes about the same hp with a less agressive cam. So just think about how much power you will make with a similarly agressive cam as the d15b in the z6 such as the zex stage 2 cam then you will make a lot more power.

Yeah how many other Z6's you think are taken care of? My B7 head when I removed it was gold...regular oil changes etc. Both my Z6 head and tranny are beat to ****...honestly I wish I had gotten a JDM D15B but I can't go back now.

D15B
