SOHC OR DOHC??
K here's my situation...I have a 96 Civic Ex with a D16y8 (of course) and the block blew a hole right behind the a/c bracket. K so I picked up a d16y7 head and block for $200. I put it together with some friends (mostly my friends did it) but now its running pretty shitty. I'm thinking about swapping a B16a2 into it and all necesarry parts (axles, ecu, rear 99 si mount, shift linkage, etc.) but that swap cost about $2,400 and that's not including how much it will cost to get it professionally swapped . Now I can save up the money but it will take a minute to do that.
Here's another thing I still have my y8 head. I was also thinking about putting that on the y7 block and just taking my car to a mechanic to get the motor checked out. I know there isn't anything seriously wrong with the motor, I just think it's cause it wasn't put in correctly. Now obviously i'll have much less hp and tq then a b16a2 but it will cost less money to mess around with a d-series and i still can make the y7/y8 pretty quick.
I'm not really sure if I want to boost specially if i go with v-tec. Really leaning towards n/a.
Anybody have any ideas they can give me or any other swap ideas?

Re: SOHC OR DOHC??
you could do the y8 head on the y7 block
granted your head is ok.
pull the oil jet out of the y7 block between cylinders 2 and 3 so vtec will work.
use your factory ex harness and ex ecu.
use the y8 timing belt
should be good to go

Thanks for the advice guys...(thecruzs2007@yahoo.com) Like I said it will take along time, I mean a long time. (92ehatch) Yeah the head is perfect, man might do that...still not sure. Also do you think the y8 head and y7 block is a good combo? Still doing research. MORE IDEAS PLZ!

Yes the Y7 block and Y8 head is a good combo, alot of people want Y8 heads, its called a mini me swap.
I say do it and wire vtec, daily drive then swap, whats the hurry?

Re: SOHC OR DOHC??
he wants a B, but the price has him down.
his original motor pooped on him.
so whats his best bet for the price?
mini me that y7 he bought. it will run great, should be just as fast as the original y8 motor and yield good gas mileage.
and it wont put a beating on his wallet.
IMO it is the BEST option for the situation

A b16 when not in vtec is pretty close to a d series sohc. I have one in my 99si and I swear my 93 Integra Ls feels quicker and was more fun to drive. Don't shell out big money for a b16.

Re: SOHC OR DOHC??
b16 is the same as d16 to me. slow. if you want to go fast then spend alot of money. you dont have money? dont waste what you have. save money and build what you have already. i dont know everything but..
this is how the story goes..........
i had a d15b7..very slow. i did the ebay performance stuff. still slow
z6 head, minime. alot quicker...but still slow. i killed that motor
i put in a gsr motor...alittle better..but still slow.
i killed that motor
i built the gsr motor and turboed it...yup..slow. 10lbs of boost=slow
im going to 20lbs and race gas...wel see if none of this floats your boat..this is how it all happens. if it doesnt work out...il buy a scud missle and tape myself to it

sad truth, if these b series fan bois would take a closer look they would realize that the OP was asking which would be better in terms of price and functionality.

Sorry to hear the gsr boosted didn't satisfy u man.. Always thought boosted gsr (especially built) would be pretty quick even at 10 psi!

Re: SOHC OR DOHC??
take off intake manifold
take of exhaust manifold.
unplug all lines and sensors to the head.
take off timing belt.
remove head with proper sequence.
install is reverse except you have to pull the oil plug between cylinders 2 and 3 on the block
use a y8 timing belt, your stock ex ecu, and stock wiring harness from the y8
