What are you asking? Putting your ecu in another car to get your car to pass smog?

Re: smog question (wid326)
The ECU doent contain the VIN or anything so why bother,
IF your looking for a hook up ask locally, but just get the same car as yours (model, year, make ect ect)

But how would you get the sticker or certification onto your car? The paperwork will all have the other cars VIN on it.

No, but I'm still not sure what that will get you. Your ECU still won't pass if your car is throwing codes, since they're stored until it is reset.

Re: smog question (wid326)
what year is it?
it wont make a difference with the computer, like BatuKing said, the ecu doesnt contain vin, plate info. if its an OBDII, then it'll be just a tiny bit harder.

Re: smog question (CA_HEP)
There was this one time when I unplugged my ECU and replugged it. When I had to go get my SMOG test, they knew it was recently reset. They told me it had to be a certain amount of miles (after it having been reset) before they would retest my car again.
As far as your car not passing SMOG. Why not? Are your knock levels too high or what? What did they tell you? My JDM B16A (completely stock) passed with flying colors after a few parts I had to replace. Never even had a California BAR sticker.

Yes you need to have X amount of drive cycles in the ECU so it can optimize the engine.

Because he has to go to a TEST ONLY station where they will inspect the car the correct way , I dont know how you passed but legally you shouldnt have, if your car didnt come with a B16 stock. You got lucky IMHO

Re: smog question (wid326)
not too sure, but i keep hearing that it is illegal to install a motor that is older than your car. But, that doesn't make too much sense to me if you just do the conversion from the 94 to 91 emissions parts right?

Re: smog question (wid326)
your car won't pass because you have a frikken OBD1 ecu in a OBD2 car. Thats the first problem.
Swaping ecu ain't going to do ****, let alone any real smog place will look at vin numbers on the car NOT THE ECU (if there ever was one to begin with).
Either way, sounds to me like you need an illegal smog done. Forget all this can I do this to this to get this to work. Just pay out your *** for a damn illegal.

Re: smog question (XiiiXiii)
yeah, i was thinking about doing that, but i heard it's getting harder to find them because cali smog stations are always getting busted by undercover agents or something like that. Unless, you happen to know where i can find some, i'd hella appreciate the info.

Re: smog question (takumi9)
yes, the state sends out undercover cars and purposely does mods to the vehicle to see if the tech knows what he/she is doing correctly and fail for things like disconnected vacuum lines, missing components, etc.... the notorious issue is timing, they always set timing different from what specs are....
