Smallblock V8 swap into a del Sol
Hey everyone. I think del Sols are good looking cars, and a really good size car to build up. But they need more power. Like 450hp. Like a smallblock V8. Has anyone ever swapped in a smallblock Ford or Chevy V8 into one of these before, or ANY Honda for that matter? I'm guessing I'd need to swap the whole running gear from the donor car also. A lot of cutting and welding. Can anyone help me out a little??????

Your best bet would be to look into an OLD 215 cid Buick/Olds V8 motor. Rover bought the molds and still uses the today.

Re: Smallblock V8 swap into a del Sol (Mista Bone)
Mista.....surely not to use the Rover lump in a Honda engine bay.........???
They still use a variant of it in Range Rovers......the best versions were the 3500's from the SD1 Rover Vitesse. It was used as a police interceptor before they started using Jags in the UK. Kept eating clutches though.

If that LUMP could move a 3800 lb GM car, it would do nicely in a 2200 lb one.
Think of it as 2 GSR motors mated at the crank.

I dont remember where I saw it but I saw someone had built a del sol with a rear mounted turbo (maybe twin i cant remember) engine and made it rwd... it looked badass

Re: Smallblock V8 swap into a del Sol (Inaniac)
I've seen that too. Its a turbo GSR motor, rear mounted, converted to RWD. Its quite fast in a straight line, but there have to be some chassis compromises by converting FWD to RWD.......
Anyway, its all possible.....given enough money and know how. You may end up with half the motor sticking through the hood or something, but essentially anything can be done. Driveable afterwards? Your guess is as good as mine.....

Yep, that's what I meant, and the Northstar V-8 kit was exactly what I was thinking as well.

Re: Smallblock V8 swap into a del Sol (jcnfh)
I guess as long as everything was supported, if not it would crush like a pop can when you let off the clutch. It seems like there would be enough room back there if you did some cutting and had the motor set in really low. The motor/trans combo would have to be out of some other mid engine setup, like that fiero, or why not put one out of a F40 back there? What ever you do the sus will need to hold up all that weight. And hello oversteer

I'm assuming the guy was asking what he thought was an honest question.
the only bad question is one not asked.
or something.
