Si and EX OEM Side Skirts
I am having a guy paint my front lip, rear lip, my si grill and my stock (EX) side skirts. I know that I have seen tons and tons of EX side skirts painted to match the OEM Color of there car. The guy that is painting all my stuff said "but I need to know if the side skirts are Si or ex models ?if they are si there is no proplem painting them if they are the textured ex or lower model skirts they can not." He says "They have a mold release agent that keeps them from sticking to the mold but also keeps paint from sticking."
Arnt the SI and EX side skirts the same, just the SI has comes with them painted from the factory. What should I ask/tell the guy.

As far as actual dimensions, yes the sideskirts are identical.
I don't know specifically about painting the ex sideskirts, but I know they do have a texture to them, where the Si sideskirts are smooth. I have seen EX sideskirts painted before that were chipping badly, but I would not be able to say for certain that it was due to the design or mold release agent you mentioned.
Interestingly, you can order "Si sideskirts" for an EX as well. I ordered a set that were factory painted clover green on my old coupe.

Pretty pricy, I can't remember exactly, maybe 200-300? So if you can get the EX's painted rather cheaply without problems, you definitely make out better.

my ex sideskirts are painted on the external part, all the stuff you can see with the doors closed. but when i open the door, now i dont know if this was just a ghetto paint job or because of the anti-mold agent, there is none or very little paint, it is grey with some white mixed in. just tell the guy to paint the 'external' part of the sideskirt. good luck

uh, he's bullshittin you. they sell stuff that actually takes to plastic to help make the paint stick. as long as he sands and primes them well, you will not have a problem. if he's had a problem with reaction, then you need to find another painter.

When I put Si side skirts on my coupe they were actually longer The Si is already painted and is smooth compared to the non-painted EX (and lower models) with the plain black.

Well I would deffintely take the whole side skirts off so they could be painted. Cause I want it all painted. I might just have them painted by someone else. It dosent seem right that he cant do that. Everyone around here says hes a really good painter.

That guy sounds like a moron.. ALL rubber bumpers come with that mold release action. It gives it a waxy feel. Thats why there is rubber bumper preperation. If this guy can't paint them because of mold release agent, I wouldnt trust his knowledge enough to give him money to paint my nails.... (not that i paint my nails or anything )
