should i swap or sell
i have a 93 honda civic thta has been sitting in my drive way for about 6 or 7 months. i was driving another car. i wanna do a stock swap and get cold air intake, headers, and maybe some other upgrades. i was speakin to my step father and he said it's not a good idea because the brakes and/or transmission and/or other parts may have rusted and it will present more problems than the car is worth and would take too much money. My question is what should i do? should i go thru with the swap and see what happens? or is the car a money pit?? advice would be appreciated. Thank you

well every car you put money into ends up being a money pit... your not going to get the money that you put into parts out of it when you sale it

i know that. The question is that by having it sit for a couple months will it make it harder to work with the car. is the fact that it was sitting there a valid concern? Will it cause the need for too many parts ot be replaced? HENCE taking more money just to get it up and running. Or should i proceed with the swap

its true any car can become a money pit. i've got over $5,000 in my money pit. But you know what ? It's all about the hard work you put into it and the end result that you want

5 or 6 months... not really an issue.. did you start the car at all?
your motor might be seized and your battery probably is dead but other than that, really no issues

Re: should i swap or sell (stayblazedo4)
ok. i have 1700 in my pocket. the engine in the car doesn't work. i couldn't start it. but i have no car to drive. its hard getting to work and other places. so i wanna get something to drive... relatively soon. i dont wanna have ot buy some POS $1700 car. im just comparing options right now. As long as doing the swap doesn't present EXTREME difficulties, i wanna do. I'm just trying to make sure there shouldn't be any problems that i didnt think about. thanks for ur help

if you just want to get it up and running, just swap in another sohc and tranny. it will cost let than 1,000 to get the motor and tranny. and since your car is obd1 that will be a big plus when it come down to the swap

Re: (stayblazedo4)
i once came across a yellow crx si that sat for some 13 years and all i did was throw a battery in it and some fix a flat and the thing fired up and i drove it away. i paid 300 for it. it was in rough shape but what-ev. I personally have never paid more than 500 bucks for a honda and to your 1700 i could have a small fleet. BTW weather the car is 100 or 4000 its still a honda. its all in how you make/look at it

are u looking into a d swap or a more powerful b swap? if your gonna swap in a stock d series then dont upgrade the headers, manifold, air intake, etc.. If I were you I would remove the old motor and prep everything. check for rust etc... then throw in a fresh b series motor. or if ur on a budget then find a cheap d15b motor. youll save money and gas!!

i'm gonna do a d15 swap but im gunna have it wired for vtec. then i wanna add a cold air intake with bypass valve and some racing headers. It's not thatr fastest thing but its fast enought, then i wanna lower it and paint it. I don't want nothing crazy, just a decent speed, decent looking non ricey civic.

your wasting money buying header/intake/etc for a d15, sorry.
dont waste a dime on performance parts for that motor, it would be like buying your dad breast implants.....
wait, if that sounds like a good idea then i may have chosen the wrong analogy...

your going to wire a non-vtec motor up to run vtec ...what's the point? your still not going to have vtec.. buy the d16z6 motor and call it a day

I think he means a d15b which has vtec.. its one of the fastest single cams you can get.. the jdm one of course.. but I wouldnt waste my time on bolt ons.. just keep it stock..

Re: should i swap or sell (stayblazedo4)
do a b series swap. you get the same amount of power with the b as you would the d series with bolt ons. Later down the road when you get the cash, do an intake, headers and then some. imo
good luck
