should i buy a sol?
distraught. integra is dead. need a new car, and its gonna be a honda.
del sol -vs- civic hb
del sol si i can run with the stock engine
and bolt ons and still get some good whp
+ it seems like it'd be a good autoXer.
civic hb will need an engine (gsr) but,
there are a Ton of bolt ons availible for
the civic and its cheaper, not sure about
autoX ability though and heavier than sol.
why do you like it?
what are some cool things about the sol?
what are some cool things that have been done to them?
pictures would be cool.

well, i had a sol and believe me, i loved it. it is a great and unique car and i would probably get one again (VTEC model). now i own a hb. big difference. the civic isnt as "comfortable" as the sol. the power sucks. there arent really any power options on the civic hb. you cant take off the roof whne you want to. just a lot of little things. but, i love the hb for its great potential. both cars are great and i cant say one is better than the other. good luck.

I love my sol, I'v never had another matching moded honda take me out..<not that im saying its quick or anything> but it seems nothing heavily moded has ever wanted to race.... Its quick handles great.. . gets lots of attention... lots of after market support... convertable, good gas milage, easy to work on just like most hondas... hrmm any thing else i can think of...

hmm thats a tuffy.. But I would have to say, If you arent worried about having room for stuff, then go with the Sol.. They are so fun to drive, the girlies love'em you cant really go wrong with one.

Get a sol.. they are awesome cars and can be heavily modded. plus if you get thte VTEC model you start with the B16a engine which is a very suitable engine! also what better car to pimp girls in.. its a sporty little car that attracts tons of attention.. and what i most like about it is that there is not that many around unlike the HB and civics... :D

now this is just what I've heard...I don't know it first-hand...
Some people have said that they handle like a brick on wheels, worse than a Grand Marquis...but I've never driven one...
now this one is confirmed. unless you stiffen up the body a good bit, if you make a sharp and hard maneuver that significantly flexes the body you stand a chance of shattering the rear window. I don't know if it makes a difference whether the window is rolled down or not. Just some stuff I've heard, I'm not a sol expert...

Re: should i buy a sol? (TITEB16)
man i dunno, I've owned a gsr, driven a si, and alltogether my del sol outhandled them no contest. and that was stock, so now theres no limit to what i can do, someday i'd like to take on something like a vette on a track just for fun and see how well I hang with em..
and shattering the window? lol.. IF that could happen im glad it rolls down

Re: should i buy a sol? (spyder)
sorry if that seemed harsh but it sounded kinda funny to me ....Perhaps some of the lower models like the S and SI have some weaker handling?

Re: should i buy a sol? (TheShad0w)
well, while i do prefer the look of the hb,
it would require an engine swap to go
anywhere with relative promptness-
and thats $$$$. money that takes away
from mods i might add.
i am yet to go autocrossing but i know
its something i'll be doing with whatever
car i get. the sol is lower, shorter-
smaller in almost every aspect. its also
lighter and almost as light as a miata.
how is the civic's autoX ability vs the
sol's?
what i'd really like is some response
from sol owners.. why do you like your
sol? what kind of experiences have you
had with it? that sort of thing.
// Also, can someone tell me why miatas
// are so good for autoXing?

Re: should i buy a sol? (theFungusAmongus)
Miata's half a long wheel base for their size and have on of the lowest center of gravity's of most cars in production, my sol is not that low for a few reasons...I plan to keep my oil pan, and i cant afford new headers..
goto http://www.darksol.com, specs on what a sol can do for racing/ autox
Civics are great for controlled oversteer and they too can perform great if the suspension is tuned for autox application. The sol tends to be a slight more stable in sharp side cornering

Re: should i buy a sol? (theFungusAmongus)
Another thing that makes the Miatas good for AutoXing is their perfect 50f/50r weight balance. This is also the strong point of the new MR2 Spyder.
As for the gauge, I have those reverse indiglo gauges in my Civic EX...they rule! You don't really even think about not seeing the needle. The gauges glow so bright that you see a halo around the needle where it blocks the light and you can tell exactly where it is.

k,,, here you go,, click the link at the bottom of my post for a pic. I've had it for one year. it's a 94 del sol VTEC. i bought it completely stock and have transformed it into this during the past year. been a lot of fun and definite attention getter. handles great, but its due for a new set of struts all the way around. other than that, i love it.

Re: should i buy a sol? (TheShad0w)
wtf, the handling on an si is awesome with a sway bar in front, i do 90 degree turns on a dime man, i dont see a need anything better than that. if you can more power to you but it why the hell would you need to do it for the sake of your car man.

Re: should i buy a sol? (theFungusAmongus)
I have a 93 sol and I love it. The flexible chassis is true, but I dont see that it is a serious flaw. I have autocrossed and used it for open track days. I havent had any problems. My girlfriend has a 92 cx hb and we have put Eibach pro kits and kyb agx and it handles amazingly better than the sol with identical susp. THe sol is close to 800lbs heavier than the hb. Just cant go wrong with any honda.

Re: should i buy a sol? (SoloSol)
hm, that is one of my concerns about the car. i'd like to
make it a -good- autoXer. i know the car can go fast-
(duh, its a honda), but i'd be very willing to drop my
dimes into the sol if i can make it compete with other
cars in its class. now i'm not saying it's going to handle
like a miata when i'm done with it, but with the proper
time and money i'm sure it will be possible to get close.
also, how is your sol 800lbs heavier than a hb? or your
hb 800lbs lighter?

Re: should i buy a sol? (theFungusAmongus)
Ok, here's the deal.
HB weighs in in VX-dx trim at around 2200 lbs. the del sol si weighs in at 2350-ish.
I have auto-x'ed my car a few times (i own a 94 Si del sol) and never have the threat of my window breaking ever come across. hoinestly, i dont know why everyone thinks the chasis is that unstable. its pretty damn rigid if you ask me. near that of a hard-top, for sure. add a sway bar to the front and rear upper and lower, and you are golden.
i've driven every honda pretty much made in this decade, from civic to legend to s2000 to integra to TL's and RL's to accord wagons.
And you know which car felt the most comfortable, and secure/stable on the ground for the way i drove it- the s2000 dumb question. but seriously, the sol prety much kicks all the others i've driven in the ***.
at the same time, i would love to pimp a hatch. but as sated, the featutres inside, etc are pretty much lacking... esp on the vx-lx models.
so, i would get a sol-
you wont be disapointed. And ****, if you are- you wont have trouble sellign it, thats for sure.
