shifting problem????

shifting problem????
i have a friend who has a 99 si, 75% of the time when he puts it in fifth gear it pops right back out, he has to put it in like 3-5 times before it stays.Would any of you know the cause of this?

thas what i figured it was so I told him to take it in for warranty.
my warranty was gone almost 6 months ago... i also have a 99 si
