alpha honda fan

1999 Civic shift console backlights don't work. Dash back lights work properly. Newly purchased used car for my grand daughter. Any suggestions on what to check.

Search function did not yield any info.

What exactly is a shift console backlight?
Are you talking about the ones in the cluster for an automatic?

I think he means the little light under the center console where the gear shift is.
Mine was out for years before I saw an electrical diagram that showed there's a tiny bulb under that thing.
It's not really necessary, but it's got its uses, I suppose.
OP, you'll have to take apart the center console. Under the shift gate is a black plastic panel with two wires running out of it to the base of the bulb.
Be gentle when you replace it cuz those wires are fairly delicate (tore mine on accident).
They're also likely sticky from soda and other spilled drinks -_-
The light you can get from Honda (idk else where you'd get that tiny thing from).
