just replaced rotors/pads and now the whole car shakes when you go to stop in it only like over 20 mph though i was thinking it needs to be bled any ideas?

Did you clean the rotors before installng them?
Did you bed in the pads?
Did you make sure that your new rotors were properly seated on the hubs?

You should have bled your brakes anyways.

You shouldn't have to bleed the brakes. Doesn't make a difference. I've done many brake jobs and have never touched the brake fluid. No problems yet.

1. Did you seat the rotors correctly on and tighten the screws down ALL the way?
2. Did you put your wheel back on ALL the way? Once you get the lugs hand tight, you have to play with the wheel a bit so each hole sits directly in the center of each stud and then re-tighten the lugs more.
3. Did you properly seat the pads?

You are correct bad fluid will not cause brake shimmy.

But the way I see it is...

Why neglect nearly $1000 (often more than $1k) of brake parts over $10.00 worth the fluid. So if you have someone to push the pedal down for you. Bleed your brakes.

It's just a personal preference.

ok,,, blead the brakes still shaking,, new pads and rotors came from carquest ( I didnt buy them) for some1 elses car.. YES I PUT THE WHEEL ON ALL THE WAY. any other ideas? thse rotors are the same size as the old 1's

Wheels/tires need balancing? That can cause shaking too.

sounds like a caliper may be loose. bleeding your brakes wouldnt fix it. air compresses, causing a spungy pedal. old fluid turns to water, which boils causing air. wouldve happened b4 the brake change. make sure everythings tight/torqued.

You're supposed to replace yoru brake pads and rotors at the same time (recommended). I didn't replace my rotors once or get the surfaced so my car was shaking too when I braked. If this doesn't happen while braking, then possibly it could be the rotors weren't installed correct?.... Vague answer... I know...

i did replace both at the same time, but why would ball joints just fail the exact moment i replace that stuff. These rims arnt bent either,,, im getting really stumped on this subject but keep the tips coming i appreciate all help.

could just be coincidental, like i said
theyre easy to check...just pop the knuckle and see if theyre excessively loose

ok i will check them im getting really confused about such a simple task,, could i have got faulty brake pads maybe? it seems like its only coming from the left of the car,, as far as axles.... why would they cause the car to shake only during braking?

are you sure your rotors arent bent? i was helping my friend to a brake job and when we were done we spun the wheels. The left one locked up and the right one made a scratching noise. Turns out the rotors werent straight. they were off my a tiny bit but enough to make the rotor wobble when spinning.

sounds like warped rotors. be sure to torque the lug nuts to spec.

Hey. I work at a shop, occasionally when we replace rotors you will get a bad one.

Take the damn rotors off and get new ones.

You people telling him to bleed his brakes after replacing rotors and is getting a vibration is ******* ridiculous...

sounds like defective rotors, just take them in to a shop and have them cut. the rotors are warped, it happens alot when their stored imporperly on the hat of the rotor not flat on the backside of the rotor. and they can become out of round when stored on their edge just for future reference. just cut them if the warpage isn't that bad.

replaced the left side already 1 time, still same thing... could it be faulty pads?

it could be not installed right make sure the mounting surface of the hub is clean and free for rust

New rotors need to be resurfaced on the hub/knuckle unit they are installed on with an on-car brake lathe. Carquest rotors arent bery true to begin with but any new rotor should be resurfaced on the vehicle so they are true to the car they are on. Other then that, with out feeling it, hard to tell whats wrong.

That man is right. When we use Carquest rotors we found out we needed to resurface them. To many people came back with a vibration problem. Almost positive that will fix your issue!


EDIT: Just to add, it is better with an on car brake lathe, but not necessary. If you take the rotors to a shop that has off-car brake lathe, they will do it for like 10 bucks and it will work. They will charge more for on-car lathe.
