screeching sound from Engine ?
Hi! I have a 93 Honda civic LX, automatic. Lately I have been hearing somewhat of a screeching sound from the Engine when idle, when driving I cant make out if the sound continues or no due to road noise.
Initially it was slight like a loose wire against fan blades now it is louder like the sound when bearings are bad and unlubricated.
Any help/suggestions ?
Thanks
Dan

Could be your distributor. Take off the cap and check from a brownish powder. If so, its time for a new one.

Re: screeching sound from Engine ? (sleepgsr)
Could be quite a few things. Have you checked the belts to make sure thay are tight? I would suggest running the engine with the hood up and listen from under the hood. Turn the throtle body a bit to rev it and see if you can determine where the noise is coming from. Could be distributor cap and rotor (sometimes they rub if stuff isn't tight. Could be bearings in the fan. But I would suggest getting under the hood with it running to get a general idea of the location of the noise.

Thanks,
I will take a look at the cap today and under the hood.
The distr and rotor were changed at 70k
The coil and ignitor were changed at 110k
The cap and rotor were changed at 180k
If its the distributor, Is this something that will eventually need to replace ?
Is it something that one can DIY, I am handy and have done some R&R.
Thanks again.
