Is it Safe to drive on 3 Lugs??????
Okay I really F#@$ up yesterday. I was trying to take off my right wheel to bleed my brakes. After I released 3 out of 4 nuts there was this one lug nut that had a wheel lock on it (Yes i have an adapter for it) The previous owner put it there. Anyways, some how i exerted soo much force on it that I rippped the whole damn thread off wit the lug on!! Now i'm wondering would it be safe to drive on 3 lugs? and how much would i cost to replace a new one?
AnyHelp would be appreciated
Thanx!

It's safe, just make sure the other 3 are torqued to spec.
Wheel studs cost like $70 to replace - mostly labor, the actual studs aren't that expensive. You could even do it yourself if you prefer, I know we've had a few threads on this subject so search around for a how-to . . .

Personally, I would only drive the car right to the parts store to get a new wheel stud and right back to the house. Then you can enjoy the experience of changing a wheel stud.

Ok here is how you replace the front wheel studs without removing the hub, its very easy.
1) Remove the wheel, caliper, and brake rotor.
2) Now you will see the brake dust shield, try to remove teh 3 screws that hold it in, but If you cant like me, then find the narrow section (behind the caliper) and cut a 3/4" section out with a dremel or grinder.
3) Rotate the hub so that the broken wheel stud is lined up with your hole you cut, if its shorter than stock (because you cracked it off or something) you should be able to just pound it out. But if not, grind down a section of that "lip" on the back of the wheel stud so its flat and rotate that flat spot back so its against the hub and you should be able to pound it out no problem.
4) now take your new wheel stud and grind down a small section of that lip again so its flat (don't damage teh threads or the ridges near the lip, just grind it down so it almost touches them. Now just slide your new wheel stud in and pound it in, then get a couple washers and slide them on, then tighten with a lug nut to seat the wheel stud, once its all the way down, remove teh lug nut, and go on to your next wheel stud, your done!!

I did this write up a while back for someone else, here you go...

I drove mine on 4 lugs for about a week waiting for the wheel studs to come in. I never pushed it or redline speed racer shifted it while I was one nut short of a complete set.

Someone tried to steal my rims. Was driving on god knows how many lugs for about a week. Started to notice vibrations. Figured it was my broken axle. Which was waiting to be installed the following weekend.
My whole wheel ended up commin off. About 2400 in damages to my fender, disk break. Hub... all that **** under there. MY suggestion to everyone. Get locking nutz. Torque to spec. And check every few days lol.
