rusty shifter bolts(pics)
ok, im having trouble getting my old shifter out to install my short shifter, the bolts are all rusted beyond removal by socket
Any ideas on how to remove these?
Another Question: are the two rusty spots on the far right of the pic the screws in the pic below this one? I was having trouble turning them, even though they look fine from the top

ouch... I am having the same problem with my exhaust bolts... all rusted and even with WD-40 they just round off the bolts. Only way I know of getting mine off is heating them up first. I dont think you wanna be doing that inside your car.
Sorry I dont have any other ideas.... but bump for you

Re: rusty shifter bolts(pics) (FortunateFool.)
What I use for stuff like that is some liquid graphite. You can get it at any hardware/automotive place. Let that soak for a minute, then try using a vicegrip. It'll f*ck up the nut, but I'm assuming you'll be buying a new nut/bolt anyway. If that doesn't work, try to get a hacksaw in there. There probably isn't enough room to cut the bolt, but if you can cut into the side of the nut it will make it a lot easier. Good luck

if that doesnt work, take off the exhaust, and get some vice grips, or big *** pliers in there, and some muscle, but ya dont wanna break it, although they are pretty tough, you could. WHen you get em out, junk em and get some bolts from honda. when ya put em back in, use some graphite on the threads (anti-sieze) so it dont happen again

heres an idea: dont install the short shifter..
its been proven they dont do anything but make shifting harder..
unless your going for the bling factor

think about it this way.. your transmission can only shift so fast... and unless your a fat slob, i imagine you should be able to shift that fast... a short shifter forces your transmission into gear... well not forces it in, but puts force onto shifting the gears...
now, onto the the actual performance... when driving... the safest way to drive is with 2 hands on the wheel.. now, i know %80 on people in here proly drive with 1 hand on the wheel the other on the shifter, but this is not near as safe as 2 hands... now, short shifters DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT allow faster shifting, rather just a shorter throw.. to make shifting less work... but in all reality, how ******* hard is it to shift? is it that hard to make u spend X amount of dollars on a part for your car that does not make u any faster, or any safer? its a useless aftermarket part for your car that any idiot who doesnt know whats going on would recomend u buy for your import
any pro will tell you that an extended shifter is the best performing shift ull get
now any ricer who thinks hes pro will tell you otherwise.. lemme see if i can come up with the article about short shifters

Re: (Morning Call)
okay but i hateeee my friends shift its sooo long and un comfortable i mean mines not like *click* where its hard to find gears but its nice and cumfy i dont go racing around testing it having my sister in the passenger seat timing me to see if this shifter really made a difference hahaha.
i just like how they feel.
but i totally agree with the extended but with the extention there will be an even longer period between gears. like not TOTALLY noticable, but i mean on things where it does count like rally cars, they have extended and shortened shifters. i mean if its going to be for a street car if you can get a nice one for a good price go for it, its easy to put in and i personally like the smoothness.
but yeah your right, it does kinda push the gears. i imagine that it will eventually wear on your synchros quicker than stock.
get one if you want it but dont get one to say its a performance enhancement

Re: rusty shifter bolts(pics) (agp1183)
man thats some major rust problem. One of my hatchbacks has 275K mile on the chassis and has no rust at all. Try pounding it with a hammer see if it loosens it up.
