RPM Gauge Jumps at 3.5K
Hi guys,
I have a 2000 Civic EX Coupe, manual transmission. Yesterday, I started seeing my RPM gauge jump at 3.5K to just past 5K and sit there all the way until I presume the engine goes past 5K and then pick up again and continue going up like nothing happened. This happens in any gear, and even in idle. It happens in the same spot (around 3.5K) every time. There are no noticeable changes in the engine.
I've been reading about 2 possible issues that people are reporting:
1) Failing distributor
2) Failing igniter
So, my biggest question about this problem: Is it possible that I would see this jump in RMP gauge but not feel any changes in the engine if the distributor or igniter was failing? Maybe you could think of something else that could cause this problem???
Thanks a lot in advance.
