Default Rough Idle after vafc install

I just installed my VAFC (p28 ecu d16z6) The install went fine, t=I turned the ignition key to "on" and the unit powered on perfect. All teh sesnors had a voltage reading. I started the engine and it idled perfect for about 10 seconds then it sputered out and died, started it back up and ran fine I hit the throttle and it hesitates bad. The car is running REALLY rich tere is gas all over the ground behind my muffler

I bought eh vafc used from a friend who had it on a 2003 EX civic but all he could use it for was a Tach. When I turned the unit on for the first time the "inital setup" did not come up becuase it had been performed previously on his car. How can I get to this setup again? I think that will solve my problem.

any help would b great.

thanks

the onl reason my firend could use the unit for a tach is because it was not compatible with his motor, all features work on teh unit. just need to be programmed i think

o and when the vafc was installed there was no CEL but when I unplugged it the motor ran fine but I had a CEL but i belive it is due to the VTM signal wire since the VAFC routes it back to the sensor instead of the ecu

Make sure all the settings are set to the stock settings. Make sure the fuel corrections are at 0 throughout the powerban etc etc. That's probably the reason you're running so rich and why your car is sputtering.

Intialize resets it to run flat, like new, so if you "intialized" it you reset it and now it is running on the wrong number of sensors, throttle settings, yadda, yadda, yadda.

NOTE: this is why used engine management systems are not a great idea to buy.

it was set for a different engine, tuned differently, you need to get the thing tuned by a pro/someone with a wideband.

did you get the update on the install diagram from apexi?

best of luck

Are you running the old silver face VAFC? To my knowledge those do not work with iVTEC... only the new VAFC2..

Reset the thing and start over.

Incorrect.

They can be just as effective as you want them to be.
You must of had some bad experiences but if you dont know what your doing or how to tune them and set them to stock then yea i'd say it wasn't.

You can intialize it and it sets all fuel to stock and you can just adjust your VTEC.

Pm me and i'll help you out

You have stock injectors in still? Why do you need to correct the fuel that much? It's running like **** cause you're probably dumping a whole bunch of gas into your motor that isn't needed.

Try to start all over again...Initialize the thing; BUT that doesn't do anything until you turn the car OFF and then on again...

I think you screwed up the wiring some how. initialize the vafc and reinstall it.
