Default Roof Antenna Conversion for Hatch

I did a search and all I found was about S2000 topics. I want to buy the new SI roof antenna to put it on my 92 hatch. I want to know if someone else has done this with similar antennas. I've seem few pics around with this mod. The main reson I want to do it because my stock antenna is stuck, I could only put it out half way and the reception is horrible.

yes, What antenna is that one? Is it pretty simple mod right? I just need to run the wire from the radio throught the roof. Thanks for the pic.

The og one is fuba. VW's have had them for years. Fuba's are powered also so you can get a better signal. They look good also.

So do you have to drill a hole through the roof for that, or what?

Yes
Of course you do. how did you think it worked?

Its fairly easy to install. just pull the upper side trim off on the drivers side, remove the plastic screw/clips that hold the roof liner on, remove the rear roof liner trim and install the antenna wire.

When you cut the hole in the roof sheet metal be SURE to put a little etching primer and tough up paint on the edges of the sheet metal or it WILL rust.

I don't see it as hard. All you got to do is run the wire and drill a hole, plus it will give better reception, because it is amplified.

Funny thing is, most of the people who've done this conversion probably never even listen to the radio...

Exactly, I have mine for 2 years now and really don't care for it nowadays. I picked mine up thru some VW show swap meet. The brand, like a few mention, is Zender. I only did it cause back in the days it was cool

Radio reception will vary, even thought its power, really didn't made a different on my application. Its different for sure. However, I've been told you can used other OEM cars, but I'm not sure.

The work involved includes taking off the headerlinear, postion the actual base center correctly and wire down the cable. Not to hard, just time consuming with anything you do that a car.

Amplified antennas will boost the entire signal, both the noise and music.
