revved to 8600 on my gsr motor, shoud i worry?
I was trouncing on a boxter yesterday and I was having so much fun I revved to 8.6k on my gs-r motor. (mugen chipped ecu w/ 9k redline, waiting for cams)Everything sounds and runs fine but could I have damaged something that would not have any symptoms? Im really loking for some piece of mind here.

nah i wouldn't worry about it, i just wouldn't keep revving it there until you have the cams. it's pointless to be revving that much anyways because of peak HP at a certain RPM, so you might as well shift. Rev there once you get your cams, then your peak HP will increase as well as the redline

I wouldnt recommend doing it on a regulare basis without valvetrain upgrades, but once shouldnt have hurt anything too badly

Yes I know it was absolutely pointless to rev that high. I was so amused by the yuppies face in my rearview as my 10k civic pulled hard on his 40k porshe, I didnt watch my tach. Have I ever mentioned Im glad I sold my si?

I wouldn't rev that high even if you DID have (aftermarket) cams.
You need valve springs and some retainers.
Those are what make it safe at higher RPMs.

I would not worry about it. My friend with his 2001 type r, use to miss 4th gear and go into second and he would rev his car to 10,000 rpm and that happed at least 4 times and he never hurt his car so I think that you will be ok.

Just to add some more piece of mind for you, don't worry about it. Try not to repetitively do it and you'll be fine. Now you can sleep.

That was the stupidest ******* thing I have ever heard. I have never, EVER, EVER come even CLOSE to making such a dipshit shift. Not even when I first got my standard. That is by far the stupidest ******* thing to ever cross my mind. Thank you for providing me with the mentality of the people you hang out with. He's going to have the ***** to geta type R, but he can't even put it into gear. If I met him in person I would ******* break his jaw.

I wouldn't worry about it. I usually shift my car at a couple hundred RPM's over redline everytime when I am flooring it. I just wouldn't make a habit of going that much over redline.

considering it was only 400 rpm over limiter it should be fine i've mishifted a ls before to about 11k and it was fine, as long as it very brief don't worry anything under 9k

Stock USDM/JDM B16A and B18C SiR engines' valvetrain can stand up to 8,200rpm. TypeR's can stand up to 9,100rpm.
If u do it time to time, u're asking for some serious trouble. U're just lucky this time.
