Replacing rear wheel studs HELPPPPPPP
I can't figure out how to get the rear drum off. Do I need to remove the spindle nut in the middle or no? Do I just hit the actual drum with a hammer a couple of times and it should come off? My car is a 97 Civic CX hatch. Pleasee help all I wanna do is replace the damn wheel studs

Yea, you need to hit it with something. Also make sure your e-brake isnt on. The pads are touching the inside of the drum, thats why it's hard. Just slap it a few times with a rubber mallot or hammer with a towel around it so you dont' crack the drum and it will fall off. Be careful not to inhale all the brake dust that should follow the brake drum coming off...

Can you get a pic?
In the meantime, I'm gonna try to find a writeup/pic of what you got and see what we can do. But like I said, after removing rear wheel and ebrake cable, the drum slid off with a few taps from a hammer.

well this is what the drum looks like, except browner
my dad is going to home depot to get some 8mm nuts, I found this how-to but the pics are dead

he says to use 8mm bolts that screw in to the holes then back out the drum

Lol, and you removed all screws on the outside? I can't remember if there actually is screws, but on discs, there are screws that hold the rotor to the hub. Do you have those small holes by the studs? Are there big philips screws there? If so, remove them. You will most likely need an impact driver to remove them.... But you may get lucky and not need it...

Re: Replacing rear wheel studs HELPPPPPPP
yeah i have the holes but there aren't any screws in them. the DIY i found said to get some 8mm bolts and screw them in to the holes which should back off the drum, just waiting for my dad to get back with the bolts so I can try it. The only thing I can see that could be holding it back is the spindle nut in the center of the hub, but everyone says all you need to do is hit the drum and it comes off which isn't working at all for me

yea, the spindle nut will clear the opening in the center of the drum.
As for the 8mm bolt being used to back off the drum, thats prolly what those holes are for, the only thing scary about that... is if anyone every changed those drums and didnt line up the holes right, you will risk running those bolts into something internally...
Are you hitting it hard? Or are you tapping it? Dont be afraid to put some force behind that hammer. I hit my sis' drums pretty hard til they started sliding off. It's so much build up and pressure holding the shoes to the drum...

I wasn't holding back or anything lol, the dust was coming out but there was still no movement. If the screw tactic doesn't work I'll take some pictures of what I'm dealing with

For the record, the 2 bolts that hold the IACV on a d16y8 are the perfect size/pitch to remove brake rotors with. I picked up a couple from the junkyard and keep them around now for that.
