Replacing a D16Y8 with a D16Z6 in an 00 civic EX (obd2 questions and such)
My friend spun a rod bearing in his D16y8 this weekend and he needs to get back on his feet quick; Only problem with this is that to do so we'd have to throw a d16z6 shortblock in his car.
Will the d16z6 not having that crank trigger thinger by the oil pump affect the obd2 computer?
We had planned on converting his car to obd1 eventually so will we have to go ahead and do so witht he bottom end swap?

so there's no way that obd2 piece of **** will run that motor without that crank trigger?
i guess i'll have to mod another p06 and throw some p28 maps on it and find a conversion harness

That's what I was going to say... Can't you just use the stock p2p OBD2 EX ecu and use a OBD1>OBD2 harness? y8's and z6's are so similar (disregarding OBD), it should run pretty much perfect. Am I wrong?

....
a jumper harness lets you use an XXXXX computer in a XXXXX chassis. I hardwired a modded p06 (gave it teh ve-tech y0!) into my car and will probably buy a conversion harness for his since obd2-obd1 is like $50 and wiring that thing in mine was a bitch.
but yea.. all i wanted to know is if there was any way that obd2 hunk of **** would run that motor for the time being
/edit: and you have to have the obd1 computer to use the harness; we dont have one yet

I imagine it would.. but you'll have a few CEL's, including CFK sensor, (knock sensor?), and such.
Not sure if you'd have to switch dizzies
