Default Relocating Battery to trunk of EG hatch

Good idea?

Im getting my lsvtec put in from a delsol i bought into my hatch. The guys doing the swap said they would relocate my battery to the trunk for me. Is it a good idea? I know as far as thiefs go it will be harder for them to disconnect the battery to shut off the alarm, the siren would be hidden behind the firewall too. Are there cons to doing this mod i'd like to hear your opinions and from people that have done the same.

Also ive heard of quick disconnect battery terminals that you can take with you when you leave the car. True?

Thing is I bought a lil battery tie down i was going to use to help dress up the engine bay but i guess i wont be using it if I give them the ok to do this mod.

i didnt know hatchs came with trunks.
mine is inthe trunk and it sux. nhra rules says if your battery is behind the firewal you have to have a emergency kill switch for the alt and bat on the trunk or rear bumper.
its pointless unless you want clean and less stealable.
get a 6lb braille battery like mine and hide it in the fender up front

oh, thanks.

i thought when you said hide it in the fender up front you said that cuz you did that. Im not sure i can fab a tray for it there.

as far as your install goes can you tell me more about the switch? I mean im having a hard time putting together how it would be wired for it to cut off the battery power..... thats what the switch is for correct? sorry if im not quite up to par here.

you can wire up a battery kill switch and it will work if the car is off. it kills power
but if the car is running it wont kill the car becuase the altenator will keep it goin until it dies (about an hour)
if i was to do to it over. i would put it in the fender up front. my bay is tucked.
but i have a 4dr...so i have alot of room. i have a sealed battery also so i dont need a vented battery box.
i took out the tail light and took out the key lock and took off the bottom metal peice under the tail light. i cut a bigger hole with a grinder inside the trunk behind the metal peice. i screwd the switch to the metal peice and bolted that back on (2 bolts) and then the tail light. then i hooked up the battery

the switch is in case i wreck and the car is sideways or whatever and the officials can drive up and shut off the car with that switch. of course if you not racing
and you want the switch for security you can put that anywhere. dont cheap out on a switch though.

well get a sealed battery you can get one cheapest is $50.
sealed batteries you can have next to your face while you are driving.
i also had a NONsealed duralast battery in the trunk at one time daily driving it and had no problems at all.
if you have a leaky battery you need a new battery

well mine is brand new walmart style. it is going to be better for security reasons if its in the trunk right? not too excited about running that much fat gauge wire to the rear tho...

walmart is good dont hate.
i used 4gauges stereo cables. run loom and keep it away from sharp edges so it dont get rubbed raw and ground out...causing a fire.

convience...if your working under your hood you have to pop the trunk/hatch and kill the batter there too. or you can have that switch up by your driver seat some put it on the console with their guages.

oh so another reason for the switch. thats nice but how do you make a cutoff, do you go with the neg or pos wire? and how do you do it considering the gauge is so big? Not sure there are switches that accomadate 4g and below.... and its def not a good idea to lower the gauge in that area.... ?

4 gauge is perfect. if you are running a battery cable longer i wouldnt use a smaller guage. you can use either. but i hooked up the ground to the switch becauze i have a train horn under the car that is right to the battery (keep power on)
yes a real train horn

ok so i can just use more grounds as said (for fire prevention and insurance?) then disconnect the ground bolt to car and put in the switch. Then the other side of the switch to body ground right?

you only need 1 good solid ground.
put the switch in the middle of the cable. i have 4inches to the switch 4inches to the actual ground
